What is it ? Original or copy ? The handle is not magnetic. No RZM code, only maker's mark.

Hi Vik,
A highly unusual piece you posted...
It has typical Robert Klaas aluminum rivets, but on later (alloy grip) knifes by this maker, the reverse ricasso is normally marked with the RZM-code and the production year.
It could be a production error...
This is a piece i would like to hand inspect !
The diamond could be a replacement, does it moves?
Best regards,
Herman

Hi Herman Thanks for the message. The diamond is moving. Doesn't look like a replacement. I saw a similar knife a few years ago. Wittmann's site seems to be. I think it's a factory defect.
Regards Vik

Hi Vik,
Thanks for the extra info! A wiggling diamond is an excellent sign to authenticity! Do you have this knife in your collection?
Best regards,
Herman

Hi Herman
The knife is not with me now. It has found a new owner. I don't consider myself a fan of HJ knives, although I have two in my collection.
Regards
Vik

I just purchased a very similar HJ from the New Orleans Militaria Show. Difference is the Klass logo is on the obverse ricasso and the RZM on the reverse. I was questioning the authenticity and the scabbard appears to be a repaint but for the price I took a chance. Aluminum rivets (I think), ferrous hilt and loose diamond. Thoughts?

Hi Bob,
You have a correct 1939 made HJ-knife by Klaas.
As shown hereunder, the RZM mark was on the obverse ricasso until early 1938, but was moved to the reverse side in late 1938 (and thus also 1939).
Best regards,
Herman
