What kind of daggers were hard finds or your likes guys!
I only had a few in my time! Hungarian,russian navy,Italy
And they never were hard to sell! Wish I knew more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PVON,,, I'm not a dagger guy but... Seems like there were a million German Armys and 2nd Lufts. made. Same with SAs....
But everything you show in that first photo is very interesting and good looking pieces.. Are they similar in prices to the German counterparts??

Thanks for the memory Paul. Gaspare. The Non German daggers do not bring the high prices like some of the rare German Pieces, but, a Protectorate dagger will bring $3200. Czeck AF 1100, even Russian daggers which use to sell for about $125 are now 3 to 400. There is a good market and a good collectors base but not as popular as the German Daggers. The real problem with the non Germans is the number of reproductions and fantasy daggers. There has not been near the research as is done on the German daggers so a lot of the modern peices are sold as original.

Well guys how many daggers did you both have? It was a area not well known 25 yrs ago!
Did you get them from counties they were from/
Were many german made?
I saw some really sharpe looking ones you have had!

Once you 2 are gone from the hobby,much info you both gathered will be lost!

Thaks Paul. Collecting non German daggers was particularly fun at the beginning. Most dealers at the shows did not know what they were and they were priced quite low. It was not unusual for me to go to one of the German shows and come back with 10 to 20 good daggers. This was before anyone knew what they were except Kurt Glemser and Bob Berger. At that time I was living in Poland. when I returned to the States in 2000, I found this web site, German Daggers, and Bob and I met here as we were both collecting non German daggers. Bob then started the worlddaggers web site and I helped build it with the 300 daggers I had brought back. I did the non German daggers and bob did the German daggers. We since went through three web hosters.
Most of the non German daggers have examples built by 'German firms. They bring the highest prices, of course. The quality is noticeably better.
As far as knowledge goes. There are now plenty of sources out there. Pretty much every country has a collector who has published a good book on their daggers with much more depth than we ever had.
I believe at this time most of the original daggers are in collections. I have over 20 Danish daggers and intend to publish them soon. I also have the Italian, Polish, Russian, Bulgarian daggers among others that I keep.

Jim,, I think I'm remembering right.. Didn't you have/had a Ukrainian dagger..
I remember telling my wifes nephew [Ukraine Army] while there about it and him telling me he's never seen one! Was it Navy or army?

Yes those were fun times!
You and Bob had stuff I never saw!
I thank you for explaing some info on things and times!
Bob had a fire recent with some smoke damage he said!
Figure he is busy right now!\
I would imagine many daggers had hangers,knots,box's etc!
When would be the eary times?

G, we actually thought there might be additional colored grips for other services such as border patrol, etc. But they never materialized.
