Hello all, I saw this flag for sale online and was wondering if someone can tell me exactly what this is for and if it is original. It looks good to me but like to get other opinions. There is a thread on another forum I have seen where a flag like this was shown but I don't think a definitive answer was given as to originality. The size is 38 inches by 40, single sided, multi piece construction & owner says it is has two fabric loops for hanging. If original & still available I might try to obtain it.
thanks again for any help or info
Bill

Sure looks like a quality product, would be very depressing is something this nice was faked - Far from a cloth expert though, lets see if some experts chime in.

Only thing that strikes me is the thinness of the black cloth, you would think they'd be designed to block light, at least most if it, for better visual appeal during the day, but could well have been how they were made.

Duzig,

Might have been made for indoor use. Something for permanent display in a school or hall ?

And, it looks more blue than black on my screen. Some marine connection ?

Thank you Doug and Dave for your comments. I was not too worried about the thinness of the flag body too much actually. And I agree Dave the color is black. As Dave mentioned it could have been for indoor use, as a podium banner perhaps. It's just that I have only seen a couple of these type flags for sale and usually on sites such as proxibid and live auctioneers, which doesn't necessarily mean this flag is a fake but is another reason that gives me pause to buy one. The flag is very well made with separately applied pieces. There was a thread on WAF where a flag like this is shown but with a corner patch and if I remember correctly someone said it might be a flag for the Flemish Devlag youth movement, but no definitive answer. The resident flag expert(Ben Weed (RIP) ) had questioned the combination of colors on it & sounded like he had never seen one before which also leads me to believe it may not be original. Being it is such a striking design I would have thought if original, more info would have been known about it. I hope at some point some sort of definite verification regarding it might come to light. Even though it seems well made I hesitate to spend good money on something which might turn out to be bogus. It is a striking looking flag for sure though. Again, thanks for your comments and glad to hear any other comments anyone may have.

That color combination reminds me more of the Iceland National Socialist Party.

Thanks for the comment Vern. I think the iceland national socialist party is a light blue with light and red swas? In any case I hope at some point someone will know whether this is an original or bogus flag. Is certainly is striking in appearance.

Bill,,, if OFW was suspicious probably best to leave it alone.. Sometimes the multipiece construction can be deceiving. In the early 90s CIA - Central Indiana Auctions made all sorts of weird stuff like this up. The material was right all the parts etc. IF your taking a couple hundred its not a big loss,,, anything more for me I always imagine my son using it for a rag when I'm gone. I'd leave it be but I know how it is to really want a item wink

Hello, Gaspare, sorry for the belated reply. Yes, I agree, if OFW didn't know about or had doubts on something I would definitely avoid buying an item unless the price was real low. And while this was a striking looking design and seemed to be of good construction etc. like most collectors, I'd hate to spend good money on an item and later find out it was bogus. I didn't know about Central Indiana Auctions, very interesting information. Yes, a loss of a couple of hundred dollars wouldn't be terrible but this was in the 700 dollar range, which if the flag was good, would be a very good price I'd say, but if fake, I'd be pretty bent out of shape taking a loss in that amount. There's always something else that comes along. Thanks again for your comment
