I thought we could add flare guns or pistols!

All kinds! US, German ,French, etc!

All periods!

I will start with some US I believe!

Many yrs ago I paid a vist to a collectors hoard of military stuff he had gathered
and he allowed me to snap pics of somuch stuff to share down the road!

Well its been about 15 yrs. so much has never been seen!

German,US etc!

Henry should be in his 80s I would quess!

You just never know what folks got back in the day!

Lots of stuff was not collected or wanted! Its always where is the german!

I would imagine navy, airforce, arny had their own!

When did it start? ww1?

Good topic to learn!

Lets start!

Wow, that's a great idea! I would love to see some flare guns and pistols added to the collection. I've always been a big fan of military history, and it would be amazing to see different types from different countries and periods. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the US ones you'll be starting with. I can only imagine the amazing collection that Henry has after all those years.

Since Paul is not around anymore to post them I can put up a few
The M8 as he had shown but mine has the aircraft mount. That attached to the interior of a bomber to signal other planes. Then a Japanese single barrel, a navy or PT boat flare gun a basic Wehrmacht flare pistol I thinks it's 42 dated and then another US pistol made of composite material. I'm not a huge collector but have picked them up when I run across them.
Apologies for the added junk in the photos!

Some I've passed up and really been disappointed in myself for doing so were. Double-barrelled Luftwaffe pistol the guy wanted 475 that was like 1999 or so. At the time I was upgrading many things as the internet was new so I passed.
And about 10 years ago a Japanese triple barrel. the collector was a huge Japanese collector from South Dakota. He was a truck driver by trade but he had a crazy passion for Japanese things. The triple barrel is very unique and at the time he only displayed it. But after he died the family sold it and everything off. I missed it. Only got one piece from his collection. Which was ok I was into buying bicycles then anyway. The old guy took me in as one of his own on the gun show rounds. when he treated most people with distain. He was rough for sure. It's just stuff anyway man! That's one thing I've learned I'd you think you want it and you have the funds buy it. It will be gone in short order. Flip side is if you don't sell it your family will after your gone. When to draw the line is the trick. I been to both sides. Laying in a hospital bed telling your wife what's worth what and who to sell to.

Here is an interesting modification to the German WWI Hebel (Lever) style flare pistol. In the 1930s, the German police sought some way of projecting tear gas to use in enclosed areas to rout criminals or open areas for crowd control. The result was this Reizstoffpistole. A few years later a holster was authorized. The irritant gas shells were produced by the Chemical Factory Stolzenberg in Hamburg Germany. Their work survived the war by creating a seriouss environmental problem in Hamburg with abandoned drums containing chemicals.

Just picked up another flare pistol today. LP 42 euh maker. Came with a used cartridge also. Kinda interesting its one of the ones that was sold to Israel for use in the IDF. At least that's my understanding of the top barrel stamping.
