Members
Its that time when we as collectors have time for things we just don't get to!
Winter and covid will let us make time it looks like!
Like many of you we have had relatives in service of our countries!
Looking up and doing research on those members can be fun!
I promised my self to look into collecting info!
Now I will start with a relative on my mothers side!
A revolutionary patriot Named Jehu Tyson that was in the American revolution and started gathering info awhile back and add to info as I can!
Lucky I had a 83 yr old aunt left that provided details of family tree to begin this search!
Have a pic of headstone of Jehu Tyson from Aunt!
Have application 1950 from some relative who got the membership way back in 1950 for Sons of the American Revolution!
Did some digging in family tree and found they have records of pay voucher from State Dept of Archives & history North Carolina!
I would like to find out maybe where or what battles he served in!

Need to take pic of that application to Sons of the American Revolution!
It was approved and says info gathered from family bible, history counties in NC and Texas and deeds, and will.
I believe 1 other served also! I saw a fast shot of info while looking maybe another brother or relative living close!
But a start to exciting beginning! A relative or 2 with George Washington in the war!
It takes time to gather info from many sources! But its winter and will keep chipping away!
Have any of the members done research on family members?
I found on my mothers side some confederate soldiers! From La, and Missisippi! One was captured at Vicksburg twice!
Grand father was ww1 vet,my father was ww2 vet!
Plenty of things to look into and gather data!
Have anyone else done any research or want to?
Computer helps but writingand waiting for info during covid slows it down!
Tell us about members of your family! Show pics! Give hints on how to look and get startedd!
Might be fun for others!

One of my daughters was successful in joining the "Daughters of the American Revolution" took quite a bit of paperwork and proof. But worth it.
My family had soldiers on both sides of the war between the states. Dead relatives on both sides. I have the letters one relative wrote home along with his sword. He did not make it.

Thbanks Paul. The medal if for the Grand Army of the 'Republic, the post-civil war veteran's association. It is based on the MOH but legal to own. I should post photos of the GAR sword.

If you are doing family research, Ancestry.com is a good search engine, but expensive. In the USA, check your local library to see if they have a license - many library systems do have it and if you join the library you can access it for free. The library systems version has some limitations but the basic search function is there and it works well.
I also use Family Search which is run by the LSD (Mormons). Free sign up and works very well. And you don't get any religious emails of any kind.
