From the battlefields of Ukraine.. Got these in the mid 1990s...

I used to have a large collection of dug items both nazi and soviet. Lost most of them in the floods..

This is the last case ,,a small one,, I haven't seen in a couple years [packed in wrong box]!'

Anyway,,,, So we have a Infantry and Panzer assault badges from the ground..
Saw these come up from the ground,,did nothing to them except a wash in fresh warm water and a good brushing.. No 'Zink Pest' appeared in all the time I've had them. They must have been beauties when first issued!!

So were all the EKII crosses have a real silver outer? This one bent a bit,, and seems maybe plated...

Also,, I have never seen a ring , nor badge or anything enamel come up in good condition. They're always cracked bad, missing a piece , etc. Here's a nice wartime Soviet Guards badge..........

Knight's Cross frames were silver and so marked. I think most of the EK I and EK II frames were nickle silver wink Nice display!

Thanks Vern,,,so the EKI and EKIIs were a nickel plate.. The iron core was completely gone,,there was 2 parts of this and the guy let me have the half.....

What I see on other sites are claims about the shoulder boards devices. They always show these LAH or similar rare cyphers in perfect condition claiming they were ground dug..

On the left side of my riker are 2 devices [and skull] were from a set of shoulder boards. [Anti tank[?] ],,anyway,,All these things are pressed / punched out from pretty thin material. I've been to 20 or so diggs and never seen a mint or even good condition shoulder board cypher come up... They usually look just like these ,Some slightly better some worse.... Guessing maybe some must be in decent condition and depends on the ground its found in..........

Hello,

Nice display!

Your Infantry Assault Badge was manufactured in the Gablonz area and was made by the firm Josef Fiex & Sohne or JFS.
The Gablonz an der Neiße makers are known for this Ball style hinge - hardware and it's found on most IAB's from this area.

I believe yours started out life much like this one.

Vern, thanks!....

When They saw these they were in the garbage pile.. Never seen a decent shoulder board cypher show up at any of the digs I was at.. IF your considering buying a nice set thats ground dug I'd be very leery....
