Gary:
This combination of an Eickhorn mqaker and the Durbeck Wien distributor logo is seen on an etched bayonet in Wayne Techet's book on page 244.
I have not seen a Luft2 with this combination before. Is this yours?

John I had mean't I haven't seen this combo on a 2nd luft before, the distributor goes way back to the Imperial times and I have seen it on a few swords and the like. It is mine, just come in from a collector in Germany. I couldn't resist it because of the condition and the unusual distributor for 2nd luft's, it ticks all the right boxes for me. I just thought I would add it to your excellent thread. I come straight to this thread whenever I see anything unusual to check if it's been seen before, because if it ain't here then it's not going to be known. It's also interesting to see the Eickhorn mark tucked way up under the cross guard giving the distributors mark much more prominence.

I haven't seen this combo on a Luft2 before either. Great addition to your collection, Gary. Of course, it could only be a better addition to my collection Cheers, John

Gary,
Great looking addition to your collection, I too like the unusual combination of maker & distributor on a Luft dagger. And of course the condition.
I know that we've seen the occasional low position obverse Eick mark. That said, with the placement of the Eick logo behind the crossguard swaz & lower positioned distributor mark, do you suppose the blade has been reversed at some point? Given the location of the two mark, I think it makes some sense.

Billy, I hadn't really thought about the blade being reversed at some point, it's entirely possible it has been, though if I turned it now then the distributor mark would be wholly under the cross guard as well, it's roughly in the same position as the Eickhorn mark as far as distance down the blade. For now it'll stay this way as it looks better like this in my opinion, it's such a cool mark.
John, I fully understand your desire, unfortunately because of it's attributes I cannot see me selling it anytime soon. At least you have another combo to look out for, if there is one I should think there will be others.

I picked this Voos marked Luft2 at the SOS. Not strictly a TM variation, it is interesting in that the maker mark, the no oval snake along with the firm name running along the blade has been applied upside down.
Here is the dagger and a shot of the two orientations of this maker mark.

Another SOS pickup flown overseas to me (thanks Gary), is this Zeitler maker mark, etched one liner and oriented across the blade.
And, here are all of the Zeitler maker marks that I have in my collection.

A brand new pickup, here is a hard to find variation of the Anton Wingen Jr maker mark. Most often, one finds the mark that says 'A W Jr ' over 'Solingen'. This mark spells out the name. For comparison, I show the other mark here as well.
The bog bonus with this is the really great ivory grip.

Just delivered to me from Deutschland is this 2nd Luft with a maker mark that I have not seen before.
It is the Gazelle mark by Gebruder Krusius. While it has a few anomalous features (like the pommel and the scabbard bands), it does pass the 45 degree hang test. As a 'test' maker of 2nd Lufts, it would also mean that many parts would have been outsourced to other makers, accounting for the weird combination I see.
Decide for yourself.

A closeup of the maker mark. My digital camera is not being recognized by my computer, so I took a number of high res closeups with my camera and resized them to fit here.

So, this is the 76th trademark variation on 2nd Lufts in my collection. This does not count unmarked blades, nor postwar mark (B&A), nor distributor double marked nor what may be worn or incorrectly applied marks. But, I do count as a maker mark those blades with distributor marks where these are the only marks (Esser Co, Hast & Uhthoff). I also do not count in the 76 the blades that have added waffen stamps (Eickhorn). We did discuss Wilh Wagner as a possible maker of Heers in another thread here on GDC. This dagger is the result of friendship. My dagger buddy, Kevin R, who is a great resource on army daggers noticed this dagger and brought it to my attention, knowing that I am cuckoo for 2nd Lufts. The rest is my being a crazy auction bidder with little self control It came with an army set of hangers. These now reside on one of my Eickhorn Heers. So, what do you think? J

The C Gustav Spitzer maker marks come in a large and a small variant.
Thanks to fdodge, I have found a variant of the large mark the differs in detail of the mane, tail, head and paws.
See for yourself.

Just before year end, this Clemen & Jung variant maker mark arrived into chilly Calgary.
It has the full oval with Clemen & Jung Solingen inside the oval. Unlike my other 2 C&Js, this one doesn't have the name on the other side of the blade.

Here are my 3 versions:
single oval full shield, no name on obverse shield alone, C&J on obverse shield alone, C&J Solingen on obverse.

Have to admit I did not know this maker used at least 3 maker marks!
Hard to find 1 let alone 3!
Time frame of the 3!
Learning every day!
Thanks for sharing!
