To my friends and fellow collectors: I went this morning to get close shipping costs for the ADDENDUM. ***************** ****************** **** here are the International and Domestic rates at the moment per book. International $ 125.00 Domestic $ 35.00 I'm trying to get the book to you ASAP where ever you live (within a week or so) If sending farther than Germany i will send you the exact shipping costs. I might suggest that coming to the SOS Show in Louisville will save quite a bit of shipping costs as I will have some copies there. I do have to however, have to pay extra to get them there. Due to the printing and binding costs NO wholesale pricing is available. I promise I will not be offended if my friends overseas do not choose to purchase. Best to all Von Ryan

Just my 2 cents, and it probably isn't worth that any more. This really did not get THAT political, IMO. We can talk about Hitler all day, and all year, but don;t mention a US president, seems ironic. Something to read is better than nothing. I read no anger in the posts. Just my opinion Ed PS, John, once again, I love the Krebs Luft

Something to read is very true!
But differences of free speech and opinions start off ok then supporters of others with different thoughts take offence!
We lost many members yrs ago and have not recovered!
Its a bad idea for members to engage in such discussions that cause hard feelings in the long run!
For a hobby like this one,we do not need the grief!
Plenty of places on internet for folks to howl at the moon!
What we need is for more posts and discussion on our hobby!
All the rest is just blah, blah blah!
Fun but not productive!

Ed,
You are correct. It wasn't THAT political. But the next post or the ones after that would have probably got there. Or the next topic. It's hard to enforce a "Just a little bit" rule.
Pvon lays it out in the post above. Dave

Dave Yes, it is a shame we as people can not discuss things without getting our feelings hurt. This modern world has made us like this. A guy years ago hurt my feelings, but he used a baseball bat. Some of the dagger and ring discussions here have got quite hostile, just nature I guess. Back to the blades, a paper book is way better for me, I have a TERRIBLE computer, but I do side with Wayne, costs have to be terrible today. Ed

I don't understand why shipping costs to Canada would be $125 when I just paid $20 to ship a hard bound book from Norway, one of the most expensive countries in the world, to Canada. And, let's not blame it on politics, since any form of delivery (post office, courier companies) is available and politicians do not set prices for businesses. I recently mailed a 10 lb parcel to the US and it cost me C$35 (around US$25)
I certainly want this addendum and have just paid for it even though I do not understand the rationale for such high costs and I don't want to begrudge Wayne getting a fair return on his investment in time and knowledge.

John,,Ed ,and the rest... I live in a small incorporated village. Around 3500 residents... Since last year our PO has been decimated. Right now they are looking for 13 employees. Wide range of different jobs. Jobs that before Covid people would have given their left toe for! Must be like that all around the country.. 2nd day priority from Long Island NY to Ohio can not be guaranteed anymore! My wife just today mailed a box to Ukraine. About the size of a shoe box,,weight = half kilo.. $62... Guesstimate arrival time,,,a month!
Sadly most books are printed in China.. the data gets sent electronically,, But the book is printed there and shipped here. So its the rapidly rising cost of fuel,,and then the time sitting way too long in the CA water all adds to the costs..
So the President opened the docks in CA open 24 hrs.. The problem is there aren't any trucks to move the items and the dockworkers are also way understaffed. To truck out of CA you must be employed by a CA trucking company.... No independent trucker is going to go for that period... SO,, there are 100s of ships waiting to offload them. Not enough dockworkers to unload them,,,AND even though the Pres. opened it 24hr a day there are no trucks there to get the items to us...
This is just the light scratching of the problem.. The person that is supposed to be handling all this was a short term mayor of a small town in South Bend IND.. He knows nothing about the job he has and has no clue how to handle it. He got the job because he dropped out of the Presidential race when told to.
- Nothing here political. - Because he does not know. about his Job that forced the Pres to take action.. The action of the open the ports 24 hr. So the other problem is he knows nothing about the situation/job either,, and the ships are still out there,,,and no trucks to send out to all of us..
Sorry about the long ramble but thats just one of the problems we all face here in the US and why Von Ryans International shipping is more than double the Domestic..

Gas Everything is a problem nowadays. California ? Just when is that fault going to erupt? Ca is pretty DEM. Trucks ? We drive from Missouri to Colorado quite often during the year, not much room for more semi's on the hiway. Hard to get people to work when they get paid to stay home, and have free rent. We are just a too fat and too lazy country any more. Everything you said is correct, and it will get worse. But we have to take the important things first, get those statues down. It will never end, we better get used to it. Ed

Wayne is doing another fine book I am sure on engraved bayonets!
The hobby always needs good info and he knows his bayonets!
Many of us have sold to good customers outside the U.S.
Prices have been high for years and that was before covid!
Hurts sales as folks in Europe,Austrialia and such balk at prices for item, shipping and they want tracking!
For daggers etc! But they did not want to pay! And this was yrs ago! Tracking costs!
I stopped shipping overseas unless I had too!
Was not worth the effort or trouble!
Then covid came and things ground to a halt!
But then you all know that!
It was expensive before! Prices now?
I wish Wayne the best on his book! On bayonet thread I posted pics of him at a show with stuff and display!
I wish he would post more older pics for collectors and talk about things!
We hear from dealers when they want something from members!
Shipping in US is easy and affordable! But we know its killer for anything heavy overseas!
Hope it turns out well for his effort!
