Herder, note there was never the extra strap to hold it more secure, i believe this to be a very early hanger made before they realized they needed a bit more stability

Hi Seany great SA dagger regarding the hanger would the Assman marked clip indicate that it is not the earliest of hangers? Im no authority in this regard. perhaps Dave or others could offer comment/opinion? regarding the F.Herder SA blade is this trademark accepted by the "collecting community" as having been used on period daggers? I know that many of these with SS and SA blades were located in Solingen and are still being sold today. They are generally accepted as period produced. Recently I hand examined one with a full Rohn inscription neither myself nor an esteemed member/advertiser here on GDC could fault it other than to state the proceeding merely asking. We believed that as perfect as it was it would be shunned generally as an unknown Regards, Ryan

The clip on the C. Linder seems OK from that shot. Maybe the SA guy got his dagger issued late or wore it with the the short strap hanger for a while before getting the vertical.

The SA F. Herder has the correct trademark for an SA dagger. Look at the writing on the upper scabbard - it looks done with with a vibrating pencil ? Also the hanger leather looks in almost new shape while the clip and buckle and dagger fittings are very toned.

Hi Ryan yes you could be right about the clip I'm not sure what year Assmann started making them
Regarding the Herder MM the one shown is period and correct its this one that raises some suspicion

Its been one heck of a run showing SA daggers collectors!

Nothing more enjoyable than seeing a nice SA!

Any partial or full engraved SA with Rohm on it!

How about the worse removal from SA of name! I think I have some ugly ones!

The SA is interesting in the history and how many survive!

Whats your favorite makers?

I never had a christmas dagger!

Just showing SA daggers and thanking all who took time to post or encourage others! Its fun and others will be looking
at this thread!

Well as we went heavy into SA daggers,Its been very enjoyable!

I never get tired of SA daggers! They have a great look!

And many times they come with other stuff!

Or you might like adding things for a picture!

Many of you have 3 piece hangers or like Illya, lots of hangers still on the dagger!

IN the US I remember all the hangers being taken off because of the value!

Group markings on SA daggers was a very interesting topic here on GD many yrs ago!

Does any one collect by these group marks that id the owner to group he belonged!

Which group marks are tough to find?

I recall hearing that ones close to Russia are tough! Any one have something to add or show markings they have!

Illya had many SA daggers with numbers and id marks on SA daggers!

Many things to learn and see!

Feel free to show things or daggers!

Thanks to all for posting!

Anything collectors would like to learn? I wish Tom W would do that SA book before I die!!!!! HA!

With so many collectors from Russia now, maybe more info on them will surface!

I looked at the markings on the dagger cross guards and can agree with the table. I have 18 groups of daggers. Almost all daggers are marked in the range from Nrh to OST. At the same time, Oe and W are quite common. The rest of the groups are extremely rare.

A bit easier to read. Note that the Gaus with a 0.0% were established after the requirement for Gau code to be stamped on the cross guard was discontinued.
