Tom Wittman,Tom johnson and others must own or did own swords that would make most of us mortals
think we found King Tuts tomb!
I bought many swords from Galien David but I wonder who is the king of swords now?

Just wonderful pieces! Like works of art!
Stuff I have never seen!
Condition is unreal! Gilding or plating like new!
Many look to have engraved blades!
Can many be tracked to origin? Country!
I love your ww1 german also!
Now as we look at your many areas of collecting! SA,HJ,swords edgeweapons!
It must be hard to pick the area you enjoy most!
You have a taste for fine items and have really put together a wonderful amount of stuff,many of us can only dream of!

Thank you for your compliments!
Most of these court swords bear the national emblems of the countries they represent.
Some even tell you for which king or emperor the holder of the sword was working.
Here are 2 examples:
- Completely on the right: the shell of the guard shows the double headed eagle with the shield of Franz-Josef I, the Austrian-Hungarian emperor (1848 until 1916)
- In the middle: the grip plate has inserted the royal monogram of Ludwig I, the king of Bavaria (1825 until 1848)
I believe that the later "diplomat swords" were based on these earlier court swords.

guys,,,I'm not a blade guy but these are a real treat to see! This is respect for history, culture, etc,,,,and you guys are doing it well. I can imagine the dedication to conserve and the upkeep to have such fine examples. It's hard work,,,but its part of the fun of collecting!

Here is a nice etched blade presentation Gemeindepolizei Officer sword. The sword came complete with a WH Officer's Portepee which I left in place. He may have worn this knot as a Traditions Portepee or may have been transferred to the Feldgendarmerie.

Here is another sword with an interesting knot. This is a Bavarian Infantry Officer sword with an etched blade and a Mourning Portepee. These black Portepee were worn in mourning for a deceased soldier or family. These were private purchase knots made in the form of the standard sword knot but rendered in black and they were worn in the same manner as the black armband was worn. This one is made in the form of the standard silver and blue Bavarian Infantry Officer knot made without the wire hanger between the strap and the stem.

Interesting maker, Carl Kaiser & Company, Solingen, in business from around 1880 until the late 1890s. He initially produced swords but later switched over to bicycles and parts.

Carl Kaiser & Ce. seemed to have been in and out of the edged weapon business. I think the published dates of his operation should be taken with a grain of salt. A good quality maker none the less.
Mourning knots are seldom seen. Here are a couple of them alongside a standard Bavarian knot in blue and silver. The Infantry one shown on the sword is black with silver woven into the knot. The other Bavarian Mourning Portepee shown is for Mounted officers having a wire hanger between the strap and stem. It too is black made in the Bavarian shape with highlights.

I picked up a very nice Austrian Model 1869 Cavalry Saber at a local military show over the weekend. This is a private purchase example of the issue sword for Enlisted Men and NCOs. It was made by Weyersberg & Stamm in Solingen and so marked on the reverse ricasso of the blade. The obverse ricasso is marked, "Eisenhauer" or Iron Cutter indicating the high quality steel. These swords are interesting in that the sword is massive with a wide nickeled blade. The blade has a pronounced ricasso and a wide fuller on the obverse side with a flat slab side on the reverse. The nickeled steel basket guard has a rolled reinforcement along the edges with seven round drain holes and two slots for the attachment of a sword knot. The plated steel backstrap is plain with two "ears" near the basket guard. The grip is sharkskin made without wire for Enlisted Men. The nickeled steel scabbard has a suspension bar on the back near the throat and a fixed ring below the bar.
I was happy to find this sword at the show.
