Gas
Yes they were. Also had the GE MINI gun.
This one looks to not be a regular gun ship or troop hauler because of the small single side doors.
Maybe some sort of a high rank transporter??
Surely someone on here knows for sure.

I just love those mini guns.
I shot one once at OFAST, Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot.
Best $50 bucks I ever spent.

I still like calling them Gatling guns grin,,,,but the Mini Gun was [still is?] a devastating weapon!!

twin MGs,, Mini guns,,Rockets,,plus soldiers firing out the doors etc.... How we didn't wrap up VN in a few months I can never figure it out!!

I'm sure there have been plenty of upgrades/evolution,, but,, gotta be one of these could still bring the fight in the Middle East... What is the newest of new gunship we have now??

The official nicknames for the AC-47 was "Spooky" But most called it "Puff the Magic Dragon" .. as Ed suggests above.

Great photos Dave, thanks.
They are devastating aircraft.
The YouTube videos of them is very interesting to see.
The ship moves quite a bit when the 30's go off.
Thanks for showing
Ed

Ed,

If you are referring to the original AC-47, they were 7.62mm. 60mm is 2.36 inches. The reference I used:

Dave
Yes Spooky was 7.62
I was talking about the AC130's large cannon.
They too have smaller gatling guns, but the BIG gun is a 60MM bofors gatling.
That video of it in action is on youtube.
The 130 gets swayed sideways quite a bit when the 60 goes off.
