I reckon I already know what you will say but I would value your opinions on this ring. It's a good looker for sure but I doubt whether it is genuine Third Reich. It looks like gold but I don‘t believe that it is. There are a couple of marks inside the band but they are all but unintelligible. Thanks guys, Stephen

I would say your suspicion that it is a fantasy piece is correct. It would be highly unlikely the SS would use gold anyway as they considered silver a more “pure” element.

Mike, we know from period sources that also gold SS rings were offered for private sale.

Agree, there is plenty of examples of them using gold. Here is my post war gold HR. Some soldier must have wanted it made this way.

I hardly doubt (to be honest I don't believe at all), for many reasons, a SS Honor Ring was ever made in Gold, nor "Gold plated". IMO all this is only another (of the many in this field) invented story. Antonio, very interesting! I did not know that. Thanks for your knowledge. Here Mike you can clearly see what I mean (see attached picture).

Antonio- thank you for posting the period advertisement! Also agree about SS honor rings, they were not made in gold. But post war anything is possible.

Can’t say I recall ever seeing a gold SS ring like the advert above from Antonio, or any other ss ring , must be scarce

Want to clarify,
I never said that period Honor rings were ever made of gold. I was agreeing to the SS ring made in gold and that they absolutely used gold not just silver. Thank you.

I have many period advertisements for rings that were never made. Offered in materials, designs that were never put in to production. There are many reasons but thats for another topic.. I would welcome to see that exact ring in Antonios advert in gold! Stephen,, it might be gold! All it takes is a 2 min test at the local jewelers! I agree it doesn't have the right style, quality etc for a 3rd reich era ring... BUT,,if you got it a long time ago and it turns out to be even 10k gold,,,well with the price of gold lately you could use it towards a 'more authentic' 3rd reich ring!
