Mark's cat is a gem, one of a kind !!!!
Mr FABULOUS 's herder saber with that strange looking cat/bat head is the most singular heer sword i ever got the chance to put eyes on .... Hardly ever documented in books, probably one of the rarest if not the rarestof Heer saber models ....

Any edge weapon can come alive when shown!

I particulary love the following picture you posted :
That N°421 WMW waffen model is incredible too !!!! Could be like a Forestry sword model !!!! The few i encountered were aluminium only ... Is there a known brass version of it ? the 3rd on the left is another great WMW model .... brass version is available , not too easy to find but nothing compared to that N°421 model !!!

Both were aluminum. Leopard head was gilted? over a copper flash. the dove head was an anodized finish.

I have never seen some details before on some swords!
Being sword dumb on some types Mr Fabulous or others!
Who would buy them for wear? And why all the types made by makers,
is any reason for such details? Engraved blades,Damascus,etc
Any meaning on why they would choose design?
Lots of questions an learning never stops! Does it!
Best sword refrence book? Was it Angolias book or others since!

And the silver swords! I remember way back dealers tried to link silver and SS together!

And I remember Bob Wait buying up all the birthday swords!

I collected antiques and I spot some really nice cases! The leaded book case is nice!
I used to refinish many of the treasures of the past!
You have a good eye in those cases!

Hi PVON ,
Couldn't tell for sure as litterature sometimes say the opposite ... The typical example is WKC lionhead N°1016 ... It is listed as a regular Heer model but also as a Customs saber model.
Some say Customs sabers had to be silvered and with green eyes ... some say it only depended on the model so in the end, a WKC 1016 with golden gilt & red eyes could be either heer or Customs ... Only the portepee made the difference ....
So in the end of the day we can not be sure ... Still a green eyed lion is a good looking piece and when i see one, i guess it could be either SS or Customs ...

Would the buyer pick out his sword? Emblem.add ons! Name engraved or service?
Are all the makers of swords going after buyers like car companies! Just trying to figure out how they picked out certain things for swords!
Is it cost?
I can't be the only one to ask or think after seeing so many types and options!
Dove ,lion head ,puma head,you get the point! Why the choices!
Sure seems as the army swords really run the gamit of options!

Salesmen would travel to regiments with a catalog proposing makers models ... either with a plain blade or etched with a few patterns to choose from ... these patterns were the basic models with no customization at extra costs obvioulsy .. Then you could also order a special customized etching for a company or a special event ( birthday, presentation, etc ) at even more expensive ... I read that you could also choose the color of the lionhead's eyes with a few companies so that can add extra confusion about that Customs / Heer matter
