Collectors Corner!

A place to have fun and see stuff you like!

Ryan and I would like for you to stop by and say hi!

First off I must say thanks to Vern and Dave!
And most important the members and collectors!

For allowing Ryan Sellick and Paul Vondrak(PVON)
the chance to help improve GD forum!
Ideas and thought were brought up on how to improve the forum
and make it better!

Its a bitter pill to admit we need some fresh ideas but if it helps
GD why not!

Ryan Sellick has agreed to help on Collectors Corner and I could not
be happier in having him!

Ryan is a collector of many cool and fine items that we will share
in the coming months!

Ol Doc Holiday has aggreed to help collectors enjoy the experience
and improve the site!

Besides,He is a big man and I might need him!

We have big shoes to fill on GD! Some pretty big legends roamed
this site!
They left a solid info base and pics to work from!

We will try and not fail to honor them!

Andy was a rock and roller! They don't make them like him!

A sample of some things to talk about as we start the journey!

I know nothing about rings and such!

G and Mike will help collectors in the Honor Ring section! Check them out!

Bill Warda last signed on 10 days ago, Paul. Quite a few sign on .... look at their forums and others .... then sign off without posting.

I am looking through them now. A few, like Elvis, have "left the room", and I am removing them.

That is some wonderful stuff!

I can see why that army is in TW book! Bet the handle color is a knockout!

Luft swords are another weakness!

Forestry does look nice also!

All top notch for sure!

Here is some eye candy! I like the armies and lufts handle that have the color be it orange, white, yellow. really orange,
and SA or NSKK handle made with stripes and odd ball color!

Tiger stripe! Maybe some one could explain how that happened! Type of wood? What?

Here is one I had back in the past! Anyone got something to show!

Bought this from Houston Coates yrs ago!

I hope to talk about other collectors, dealers, shows,How covid has affected the hobby! Darn near endless supply of things
to help get this forum more than 5 or so members,

My showing stuff might get people to also post in other section that are dead!

Or I can also add to some sections what I post! But because some are dead or lost and have
no posts ,no rudder as they say! We will start here!

Good morning Collectors!

Just having a cup of coffee!

Sold my sword so packing for shipping!

Thur I plan on going over vets sons house and hope to find something!

Not like the old days for sure, but fun as the hunt continues and keeps me busy!

Will also ask my 50 yr friend about getting his son to allow pics down the road
and share some things!

He bought about 40 guns and! rigs from vets son! Even a rare sniper rifle!

Family wanted to move some stuff and money is nice! But you need the moola to
play!

How about you the collectors! Do you find the hunt fun?

I find its pretty tough with many still beating the bushs! Hard!

Whats worse is to arrive and some friend or relative trys to muscle in!

But most times like many of us it takes cold cash to win!

They just cost you more! But the ante is to much when you are prepared!

Buddies son was prepared and scooped up the guns and rigs! Wasnt cheap but fair!

Wish I could play like that!

You are right, Paul,

You need moola to play. Cash is a very good incentive to sell. A fan of greenbacks beats the promise of a check most times.

Even at shows since a lot of sellers have their eye on something else to buy.

Thats right Dave

You know with the internet and everything people look up things even on ebay!

Can't tell you how many times some one will say I looked up so and so dagger or what ever and they find Tom Wittmans site or some one
and they say well it must be worth$$$$$$$$$$

Grand kids know how to find info! Prices for that gun or dagger! Takes 2 minutes and bang!

Many want to know what its worth to you! If you give a price then many times thats a start for them and next 2 guys get the buy!

You are bidding against yourself! I find that you lose out to much! I really prefer they name a price since they own it!

I have no problem giving a price if they want to sell but really don't know!

Some folks want more on something then a big time dealer because they say Wolfand Hardin or Jason ask this price!

Now most of us wouldn't pay more for a car from private seller than a dealer! If it wasn't special!

I like to hit the pawn shops and they always ask! What you will pay? I learned to say! I would like to a 1.00 so what do you want!

Tough to call!

As many of us age the value and amount of stuff they have is huge! Some have the moola to buy but most don't!

Interesting topic that can be discussed! What other collectors think or dealers!

Here is a situation that happened to me.
I was at a big military show, the SOS, or maybe the Roberts Center show. Two or three years ago.
Looking at a Luftwaffe fighting knife. The dealer had three really nice Lufts, and three really nice Heer fighters. All priced at $320 ea. Not a bad price for the time.
Was haggling, offering $300 for one. All the same condition. Dealer was very against the offer, but still talking. You know, the I have that in it thing.
Along comes a guy with a camera, filming the dealer, lights and all. So I step aside, tell the dealer I'll wait.
The interviewer looks at the dealers stuff, and at the end of about 5 minuets of filming, buys all the fighting knives for about $225 each.
Later, on the new dealers site, they are for sale at $595 ea.
YES!! I should have gone with the $320, but that was a lesson for me. Dealers are Dealers, friends are friends, customers? well they are just customers.
Dealers are not at shows to sell things and make money. They are there to make BIG money. You dont want to pay big money, do without.
I do know that ALL dealers are not the same, but most are like the above.
I still go to as many shows as finances allow, but if I can not get a item for a price I am happy with, I do without. And the dealers bitch that there are no buyers just lookers, they do it to themselves.
PS: I still do not have a Luft fighter, probably never will.

Ed

Have seen that happen for sure!

A few yrs ago I was set up at SOS with Ed Sunday and brought a bunch of nice daggers!

Had a guy looking and looking and looking at a few and nothing!

King Tiger Mark if anyone remembers was a player!

He waited and waited very respectful to this fella but
after nothing happened he sorta said get the hell out of the way I will take them all!

Different for sure from your story but it was funny at the time!

Collectors

I have secured for this section a ton of stuff from Ryan the other fella on this site!

I have to go thru pics and things but holy sheep dip!!!!!!! Ryan has been a busy beaver during this covid year!

God Ryan

How did you find time to work?

Collectors Corner is going to bring the bacon!!!!!!!!!

I have to check pic size as to many are small!
Will have to figure it out! He just dropped me 100 pics of some fine stuff and I prepared a 100
of pics I want to show! We have the ammo collectors and I hope you keep stoping by for a peek!

Ed show us some of your goodies!!! Thanks for looking!

Hi Paul, thanks for posting I have never as a rule collected German medals. This wasn't because I didn't find them aesthetically pleasing or attractive but rather due to not being able to tell a good iron cross EKII copy from an original. The reproductions are that good and I assumed that I was doomed to failure. I acquired them for uniforms or for display purposes to compliment daggers or headgear/uniforms. This was an exception. This is a cased social welfare 3rd class from what I understand. I acquired it from GDC member and sponser Bob Iqbal co-owner of Collector to Collector militaria in Syracuse NY. Bob is an extremely knowledgeable collector and dealer. I encourage everyone to visit his site. The medal is mint and appears un-issued. It was priced very fairly. cheers and best, Ryan

Thanks Ryan

I agree on the beauty of this item!
And I agree on the minefield of medals and badges to me!

Luck Tom Y lives in my area and goes to local shows and is more than willing
to assist collectors!

Friendly and knowledgeble folks are always a plus!

I have alway found Bob Iqbal a very good man over the yrs I saw him!

Bought a SS visor from him once!

Another great topic for later is the dealers or such that I like or have had experience with !

Top notch folk!

We must find out what German Daggers can do to satisfiy collectors!

Organizing a better forum for all is the goal!

If its not, it should be!

Let the recruiting begin for all!

Can we as collectors join together and roll up our sleeves and add something to German Daggers!

Remember the movie Patton!

Patton came to the headquarters sirens wailing! Walked in and found that GI under the desk?

Patton says what are you doing under the desk!

Soldier says trying to get some sleep sir!

Patton says! Get back under there! Your the only SOB that knows what he's doing! That was funny!

I still would like to suggest a Sports, car, movie , music ,or renamed old section thats producing nothing!

Roll it into something fun! Going to take time but people as they drift back to GD if we do our homework!

Might enjoy the stop over!

I say plan for the future! Expect folks who travel the many sites and venues to drop in and have some fun!

I love daggers, collectables and many things!

But I like everything mentioned above!~

Heck I can just see Dave spinning his Pat Boone records!!!!! Thats a joke Dave!
