I got this dagger out of the woodwork today.
I am not a dagger man
Is this the real deal or replica ?
Is this a common dagger or rather rare ( I saw the list with rarity of makers and this one had a "5" for rarity score ...

It is real and somewhat rare/collectible maker, but not in that condition

Werner,

I could be cleaned up a little if you take it apart. Soap and water and a soft cloth. Renaissance Wax on the blade and gently remove 2-3 times.

As Ron said, 5 out of 10 rarity

Buchel is an uncommon maker for Army daggers but with plentiful items, condition is everything. The lack of crossguard plating and overall condition of the blade (including what looks like sharpening), I fear the collector value on this item is low indeed. And the crossguard finish being so different from the pommel and ferrule, I'm not entirely positive it isn't a parts piece, despite the fact a generic guard would be correct for Buchel.

If you're considering buying it, I'd suggest you spend a little more on one in better condition.

Thanks Billy,
I received the dagger together with a portepee and afrikakorps cuff title.
So I'm not buying it.
All items are defintely original, I just wasn't sure about the dagger, but the source where it came from made it doubtfull to be a replica.
But you never know.
I've been to German veterans who showed me their "own stuff" but some of the medals and even a sword were fake.
When I asked him how many times he had shown them to other people, it turned out he had lots of "fans" coming by to look at his stuff.
When he displayed all on the table , they asked for a drink, so he went to the kitchen to get some drinks, leaving all his stuff on the table with his "fans".
I didn't ask more after hearing that.
