hello to all, this I picked awhile back, has proper RZM specs. blade & overall lengths including diamond which has movement, blade & rivets, grips are tight & well fitted, still has a decent blade profile, but shows its age, I think maybe a very rare maker? thanks for looking.

Emile Gierling is indeed a very rare maker when it comes to HJ-knifes.
Your knife is a bid rough, but it's a great score anyway! Congratulations!

A very rare maker for HJ-knifes it is... but still there exist two versions of the MM!
This one is the earliest in my opinion: see pic.

Best regards,

Herman

yes, I see one very nice transitional Gierling, but I like the early HJs because most show some type of logo maker mark, I wonder what that logo is supposed to be on these early HJ Gierlings? thanks

I believe that is a likeness of a chemical beaker.

"Transitional" is a term used when a HJ-knife (or SA-dagger) is marked with the maker mark plus the RZM code. A better term is double marked in my opinion.

Both the versions of the Emil Gierling shown here are early HJ-knife variants: they only have the maker mark, no RZM code.

Best regards,

Herman
