Derjager has an excellent idea linking the table medal threads together. That gave me the idea to do a thread on Police Table Medals.
Here is a nice gold table medal for a police dog. It is nicely cased with a German Shepherd on the front. It was awarded on 3. October 1926 to "Astor" for Very Good performance on the Polizeihund - Prüfung test.
The case has the sticker of Thieme & Fuchs in Leipzig on the bottom.
I suppose that Astor had no need for anything other than a table medal since he had no uniform to wear one on. I am surprised that he had a table. Must have been a nice doghouse.

Quite a few of the police table medals were for sport. This is a police fencing award. Notice that it is signed by the designer "GLOECKLER" which is something I have noticed is fairly standard. That is a nice touch, since we seldom know who designed or cast various awards. Also, notice the hole drilled at the top of the award. I have seen this on several police non-portable sports awards. I presume it is to attach these awards to a wall, probably at the Polizeisport Verein.

Reverse view of the bronze fencing award. It indicates that it was an award of the Hamburg Polizeischule for the winner of the Men's Sword (Degen) fencing competition. It was awarded at Spandau on 24 Januar 1932 to the Victor. An award like this would display nicely with a Polizei Degen. George

One more table medal for now. This is a Police Sport Association medal for the Baden Police. This bronze medal has the insignia of the Badischer Polizei prior to 1936 on the front and is halmarked with the logo of EH on the back. It is unknown who this designer/maker is.

View of the reverse of the Baden Police table medal showing the intricate design elements. Various sports figures representing skiers, runners, etc are seen in the background. In the forground one sees a uniformed policeman on the left and a policeman dressed in sportswear on the right. The hallmark is seen at the bottom.
These Sportvereinen medals could be awarded at various police sports competitions.
Who else has a police table medal to show?

Thank you very much for sharing your awards. I recall your fencing award from one of the archived posts. I've long been fascinated by non portable awards (table medals). Such variety and many have so much great detail.
Do you mind if this thread gets linked to the other?

Joe, Please do link this thread to the others. Your idea is what gave me the inspiration for this thread. I like non-portable awards too. I particularly like police sport awards. Actually, the police awarded more than just table medals as non-portable awards. There were cigarette cases, candlesticks, radiator plaques, and a host of other odd items. Here is an example of an odd-ball award that is not a table medal. This is a sterling silver small calibre shooting award in the form of a small plaque that went around the neck of a wine bottle that was awarded as the prize. I suspect you could then take off the chain and attach it to the stock of your .22 rifle after you drank the wine. Who says alcohol and gunpowder don't mix? George

Here is a nice cased Pol table medal that is painted porcelain. This one is for the Great Police Exposition of 1926. There is also a companion book that talks about the award of these table medals as well as showing 1000 photos of the exhibition. A very well documented state award.

The 1926 Police exposition piece is an attention getter. Kind of leaps out at you. Very interesting piece. Does the book tell how many were awarded? --dj--Joe

Joe,
The book does not indicate the total number of awards for the Police exposition medal. It is pictured and discussed in the book however.
Here is another intersting non-portable award for a Polizei-Sternfahrt. These enamel badges were produced for a series of police road trips (race) for automobiles, motorcycles, etc. Sort of like a gia kona. These awards had holes and could be attached to an automobile radiator, a wooden plaque, etc. They could simply be kept as a table medal and I have even seen them attached to a kidney belt for a motorcyclist. There were various prizes and competitors who completed the course were awarded the enamel award.
This one is for the Bavarian Police star-trek of 1932.

These things can kind of spin off into other items, like the Police Exhibition book I mentioned. For instance, here is the participant pennant for this particular race. These pennants were attached to the vehicles during the race to indicate they were part of the competition. If you started the race, you received one of these pennants. If you finished the race, you received the enamel award. Sort of, collect the whole set mentality.

Finally, here is the race book, for this particular race, that covers the event. These items all came from different places and people and I re-united them into a coherent mini-collection or grouping over the years. You know how one thing leads to another in this hobby. There is always one more thing to find.

View of some of the ads in the race book. Notice the BMW and Ford ads. Those clever Americans, always trying to sell automobiles overseas. I hope folks enjoy this little grouping. George

George, thanks for the reply. Those items individually are great, when gathered together make for a most interesting grouping. I like to collect by groupings but keep getting distracted. --dj--Joe

Makers mark. I do know of a kidney belt with 7 or 8 Polizei and NSKK medals on it. If the dealer still has it next time I see him I'll try and photograph it. He just might sell it at the SOS, so we'll see.

Not a table medal as such but a Police Sport Award none the less. This is a Prussian Police Sport Award in the form of a silver cigarette box. Other awards, such as swords or rifles, were also made for sporting activities.
