Recently purchased a 1938 RZM SS dagger made by SMF. Since these are widely faked, I was curious if anybody has come across a fake SMF.

Jager,

That dagger looks OK. Has it a scabbard ?

I was not aware that 1198 has been linked to SMF

Hi Dave,

I was told it was SMF, but have not dug into the codes yet. Do you know who is the maker if not SMF?

I think 1198 is a unknown maker.
Nice dagger with dark inscription, and a very nice scabbard.

Jager,

Good catch, and as Ed says, it comes with a good looking scabbard. Is this your first ? If not, lets see some others.

1198 is unknown, at least to me. If you have something linking it to SMF, please post.

Paul (Lakeside Trader) has an SS dagger listed for 1198 that he attributes to SMF. Here is the link -

Thanks to everyone with the replies. This is my first SS dagger and was very skeptical after reading about all the fakes out there. I have over 10 SA daggers, but never got the chance until now to purchase a SS. I also learned today that this dagger came from Lakeside Trader several years back so that made me feel even more confident that this one was the real deal.

Would
d this dagger be considered rare because of the maker?

jager,

I have followed early SS daggers and the RZM ones for many years and for me, 1198 is still unknown. I hope that someone has tied that number to SMF or another maker, but so far no proof.

While rarity of the early makers has been discussed many times, I'm not aware that the RZM makers have ever been classed or rated. If anyone has such a list, please post it.

Dave
