Mr Fabulous, I'm not sure if this helps with your question about Sängerbund banners or not, but here is one from Männergesang Verein "Menningen". Menningen is a small town in the Rheinland-Pfalz. Surely, there must be some sort of similarity between these two types of groups?? Anyone know? p.s. Pretty sure I've posted these before.

Some nice pieces Gentlemen, I especially like the carnival medals.
Here's another item with an added Swastika, which has been riveted on through a small hole. The badge itself is heavy & magnetic so it probably took some time to drill the hole through the centre of the circle. The question is when was it added?
There is some enamel damage to the Swaz.
Cheers Don

Denny,
A beautiful club flag! I'll bet the handwork is really impressive to see close up? Notice the swan motifs on the flag and the gold award? I didn't think swans were noted for their fine singing abilities? Anyone know the relationship there?
Don,
Always a pleasure checking your latest posts and photos, you really have a marvelous collection. Kind thanks for your unwaivering participation.
Best!
Bill

Fantastic pins and banner guys!! The menningen choir "Harmonie" is the eldest Sängerverein in Menningen, in 2009 they existed 85 years already. Founded in 1924, spilt up in 1927 and another choir named "Sängerquartet 1927" founded. Reunited in 1935 though, into the "Männer Gesangsverein Menningen". During the 1960s, not many pople were singing anymore, and a mixed (men and women) group was formed, that was directed by Frau Tatjana Scheifler. From then on to now, the choir only is left with 18 members at some point, but, today (2011) the choir counts 25 members again, and, does a lot of singin at many difrent things and festivities. As Denny shows, the Menningen Verein banner, between 1924 and 1931 was also at the back decorated with the words " Bewahr Dich Gott du Deutscher Sang von starkem Wort und Reinem Klang", a swan sometimes stands symbol for strength and purity, maybe (!!!not sure) it's used for that here too. But also, it could be the symbol from a song they used as signature-song? BUT, I think, when I see the Franken pin also with a swan, that, it refers to greek mythology. The swan song ... swans, before dying, sing the most beautiful enchanting song anyone ever hears. All singers wanna sing just like that, wouldn't you think? Bye, KR

Karin, The white swan is the symbol for sincerity and is the bird of life. It also signifies solitude and retreat and is the bird of the poet, its dying song is the poet's song. Thanks for the history of the club, most interesting. Best! B~

Karin, thank you for researching the background of this Menningen group. Most informative and helpful.
Bill, this was no doubt, the most impressive banner quality-wise I have ever owned. The obverse background was made of velvet; the white was done in cotton, while all gold stitching and banner fringe was done in a metallic wire-type thread. The reverse background was in silk.

Came across this coloured postcard showing a Tiroler musiker the other day & noticed that he was wearing the Deutsches Sängerbundesfest tinnie, from Breslau in 1937....
The badge is posted on this thread on page 2 I believe
Cheers Don

Don, A very nice old cultural photograph, even if he's not sporting some great old Tyrolean shooting awards ... Good of you to spot and post this. Just as a coincidence there's a 'Tyrol-related' thread currently on the Imperial Graphics thread, if you'd like to have a look for a bit of background history? For a long time now, Dean Perdue has been sharing his marvelous collection of illustrations with us over there, and his latest post depicts the fate of this Alpine region after WWI, with a brilliant image. Wishing all our contributors the best of luck with your collections ... and thanks for sharing them with us. Best wishes! Bill

Thank you Joe & Bill,
You are certainly right Joe, my heart stopped when I first saw it but sunk when I realised the it wasn't a shooter he was wearing.....
Thanks for the heads up Bill, some nice cards being shown there. I tend to forget that many do not know the history of that region.
Cheers Don

Sangerbund related materials should be an affordable avenue for collectors. Anyone specialize in this organization?
