Got a question for the books of knowledge out here.
I just got a Case 337-6Q knife that was from a WWII USAAF B-24 crewman.
There is a red painted band on the handle, just above the guard, about 1 inch wide. Been there forever.
Can someone tell me the significance of the band?
I have seen it before on other US knives.

look at my US WW2 knife topic here. That has 2 small red bands one top, one bottom,,,,mine only a little thicker than 1/4 " think.. not paint but colored somehow..
how about a photo...

Your knife has the red and black spacers .
Lots of leather stacked handles has red, black, and white spacers in lew of all leather.
My knife has it painted on. Kind of dull on one side from exposure, and brighter on other from the protection of sheath.
