This is something that we have never discussed as a topic on GDC. Many military formations had issue pocket knives. Some were general issue and others limited to certain occupations, like the Luftwaffe's paratroops.

Here is one that I have had since the early 1980's - the first Swiss Army Knife. It was a WWII issue and came with a leather pouch. The pouch has a snap closure and a little gimlet through which a string can be run. I am told this first issue is hard to find and the leather pouch is rare.

The Knife has 4 tools:

Blade, screwdriver, can opener, and a spike or awl. All very sturdy and sharp or pointy.

Sorry, the original pictures I posted were not good at all - about 20 years old. I've now redone them.

That is not a military issue knife. No military, except maybe the French, would include a cork screw ! It looks like the same basic knife but with a saw, corkscrew and small blade added. I am certain of this because I have the second and third models as well.

No US Navy pocket knives or TL-29's ? Or WWII switchblades or gravity knives ?

How about a Navy issue TL-29 from 1969?

Was it stamped "TL-29" or "USN" ?

Nice Swiss pocket knife, and, with a super case, rare to find I'm sure.
I am not into pocket knifes very much, but John Gibson and Frank Trzaska always have rare and hard to find folders on there sites. A lot of them now.
I still do not have all the fixed blade fighters I want, not to mention daggers, but if it has a blade, I'm interested.

Looks like an early one all right. No can opener but has a corkscrew.

This was a gift to me by my friend who got it from his father-in-law, who got it from VICTORINOX, the father-in-law was a hardware salesman.

Page 148 has maker marks and development with charts.

Page 149 has the soldier's knives starting with 1891 with wood scales on the left and officer's knives starting with 1897 with fibre scales on the right.

The photo above has some distortion - look at the top and bottom knives on the left. The are banana shaped.

Also, the "Swiss Army Officers Knife" was not military issue, it was a private purchase or PX knife.

And there is now a new one - a shared design with the Bundeswehr. See below
