Dear forum users,
I need help in identifying this model I recently came across. I know it a very early model Eickhorn but have you ever seen these oval knobs before? They are only on one side.
Anybody who knows more about this specific model?
Thanks in advance.
Pieter, the Netherlands

You have a very early 1st Luft Dagger with a soft leather scabbard. It was assembled like a Hunting or Forestry Dagger and the reverse staples secure the fittings to the leather scabbard body. The makers quickly switched to a metal scabbard covered in leather with screws used to attach the fittings as the soft leather scabbards did not hold up well. Very nice condition and not often seen..

PieterNL, let me welcome you to the forum! Vern already did say all concerning your nice dagger. As Vern has written the reverse staples (which are the "oval knobs") secure the fittings to the leather scabbard body and are all right being only on one side -reverse- of the scabbard. This daggers have been the immediate follower of the long 55cm DLV daggers still produced with some of their features. It is nice to see such an early dagger still in such a good condition.

Thank you very much for the help. I haven't bought it yet. I wanted to learn more about it. Buying such an early one makes it interesting. The guy is asking 1000 euros. What would you think is a fair price?

A few more question please.
The swas doesn't seem to be the typical brass insert. Maybe a
nickle one, like the pommel that was used on such early daggers?
Or maybe the gold plating was lost over time?

Just like to inform you that I bought the dagger. Very nice indeed and it looks great in my collection. If you happen to know about 'dark' inlays I would be glad to hear from you.

Hello Pieter, those -dark inlays- might have different reasons. I only speak here concerning non-aluminium daggers. One might be that there never has been used -real- gold (which would not patinate) but golden looking materials which tend to patinate dark during time (especially when a once period applied protection laquer is gone to time). Another one might be that there is a layer between the material of the crossguard and the final "gilding". Once the gilding is gone the -layer between- of any material which does patinate lays free and turns dark.
When I look at your pics (which are kind of blurry) I think it might be the first case.

Concerning the price, I think you did not get an answer as a price is always something special between a seller and a buyer. I am sure you did a look through some internet pages where daggers are offered and you got an approximately impression about the current price of comparable daggers.

As you now have this dagger in your hands perhaps it is possible to get new, better pics of this nice dagger and, as Dave said, some pics of your collection?.
