Had this up here years ago and not much to go on back then. Maybe now its recognizable to someone -

Not knowing anything about sword I come to you learned gentlemen for an opinion.

Got this many years ago. Had a scabbard which I'm pretty sure is lost frown

A long guy! , No markings on blade ,, kinda a weird knot too [?]..

Its was hanging up on my shop wall for over 22 years now.. actually been in a couple sword fights with it! .. And,,now its retired to a new man cave..

I was told at the time it was a early SS sword. It was a tip for some work performed ,,,so it looked cool up on the wall anyway!

Hello Gaspare, generally it is an infantry saber (socalled Einheitss?bel) without any embelishment, worn by men and NCOs (NCOs often did decide to wear the more ornate lion s head sabers; officers would have it with a gilded hilt) with an added eagle. WHEN the eagle has been added is just a case of believe.
To me, due to patination and quality it easily could be done during the period. We know that in early times the SS had no real supply concerning sabers and a mixture of them has been worn when reglementations did require it. I do remember a photograph in one of Johnson?s -Wearing- serie with a group of several SS men with sabers and each one is wearing another model/kind of saber.
I tend to believe that your saber COULD be period SS even more with this troddel. I do own a wearing pic of young Otto BAUM during his membership of P.B.Wuerttemberg -therefore VERY early- wearing exactly such a troddel affixed to his bayonet.
We will never know for sure but this is my personal opinion concerning this nice saber with character. Sadly the original scabbard has gone to time but at least a comparable replacement can be found. Although as you mentioning -a long guy- it would request some time and careful selection.

Wotan,,
Thanks for the info... I've had it a total it seems of 24 years..

Considering its age and how it was kept its not in too bad of condition.. Probably by next MAX I'll get a scabbard for it as I've seen them for sale alone before.
The blade is 33" long,,original scabbard was a plain black.. Anyone in the US with a extra maybe give me a shout and we can do something wink
- Guess finding a replacement knot for it is out.. I'll clean everything up a bit,,find a scabbard and hold on to it as it has sentimental value,,my grandson can figure out what to do with it when he gets it..
Thanks again Wotan....,G.

Hello Gaspare, if the saber did come to you with this knot I personally would not alter anything concerning the knot. As said, I have a period -wearing- pic showing such a troddel being worn in early day of the SS. For me the patination and the certain knot is the base of the character of this item.

Keep the knot on it! What is the maker and how is the eagle attached?

the knot looks to me like a prussian NCO from imperial times.

- the sword is as it was given to me 24 years ago. I knew of it before that and had commented on it . A few years later it was gifted to me.

I checked all over it and no maker or markings anywhere.. Well the eagle isn't glued on.. Checked behind it and couldn't see blending of pinning marks.. Maybe soldered on [?] - Thanks for the help guys , ...G.

May be the Eagle is welded to it ! It looks like a 1929 SS visorcap Eagle ... I would leave the sword with the trodel as well

I wouldn't find it a scabbard neither ... Keep this piece as it is ....

Regards

K.
