I found this page in the archives of "Kommandostab Reichsf?hrer SS", the archival reference with NARA is T-175, R135. This is page 864 on that roll.

It says that the Totenkopfring from the Reichsfuhrer SS is still being awarded during the war, and lists how to apply for an award and include ring-size in the "german goldsmith standard"
Most interesting was a list of examples of critteria fulfilled for being eligeble for the award:
- SS number below 10.000 or
- Awarded the golden party badge or
- Member of the SS before 30.January 1933, and now an officer (Fuhrer) or
- 3 years service-time as an officer (Fuhrer)

I dont know that signature, but probably some secretary that was asked to send out a "reminder" that the SS-Totenkopfring was still being issued.
As this is not a new order, law or legislation there would be no need for a high ranking person to issue it.

Ok, a bit further down in the microfilm-roll I found the orders from Himmler on Totenkopf ring award criteria.
I guess this takes away a lot of the mystery of who-why these were awarded.

Just a dumb question I have,
Are these already known/published in some books? As I am not a ring-collector myself I have limited litterature on the subject and no real knowledge of what is already known.

Trig,, you honor us with your findings.. Thank you very much for posting here... Great work!

A complete list of who was awarded the HR I don't think has ever been found.. As far as criteria,, its there but also who ever Himmler wanted to also. That is how some of the foreign volunteers got them and other non SS +..

Couple of interesting signatures on them!

Thanks guys,
I am just going through som archival material, primarily looking for anything in relation to daggers, degens and swords, but I am keeping in mind other things that might be of interest.
There is a lot of information in these NARA rolls. :)

Was the ring mandated or expected to be worn on a certain hand and finger, like wedding rings?
