sad to say but over 90 of his rings were recently sold at a German auction house... He had more but it remains to be if they were sold privately by the family or will appear at the auction.. Odal/Goetz was a great guy. If he bought a clunker [fake] ring he would not put it back in to circulation,,he'd just put it in with his rings collection.. He had good, maybe's and bads.... We knew each other a long time and emailed almost every other day. It was he that got me back in to completing the book project. We always trusted each other, traded information freely and he accepted many of my findings. We also did a couple very big deals [a $10K one ] that made a few guys very happy. We didn't profit but added a few nice rings to each of our collections...

After his death I sent a condolence card.. Then a Christmas / religious type card to the address. Months ago I had a German member here help/translate a letter to his widow stating: How much we all miss him,,how he is honored on 2 forums, and mentioned about the big box of guild booklets we had went in half on,,,only if she had seen them,,didn't ask for anything.. Did not get a response to any of the cards/letters..

I asked the auction house that I know they must protect their clients but could they pass her my email explain I was his American friend and just wanted a quick word/email with her..
- Her response was basically this: Our whole family hated his collecting these items, and wish to have no contact with anyone involved and glad we could erase this part of our lives regarding these items..

A good guy, to bad his family thought so bad of his hobby.. IF you come across an German auction house offering rings from his collection,,be very careful, scrutinize it very carefully, IF bad photos ask for better,,and you can always put them up here for opinions.., thanks guys..

RIP brother.

sorry guys,,as it was 2 members that informed me,,thought you guys knew:

Philipp Militaria

IF you don't leave clear instructions thats where your treasures could end up! I've put down that my children / grandchildren can have a pick of anything they would like IF they wish,,then a trusted much younger person that will help my wife to facilitate the sales..

IF you have a large collection,,or small but very valuable its something to think about,,never know when its your time........... Keep the hunt up guys...,G.

Yes I feel the same, I am struck with memories of discussions we had over many of these pieces. The coastal artillery piece he found in January.., he was very excited about the start to 2018. R I P my good friend. You are missed by many, hope you are enjoying a lovely Hefeweizen this morning wherever you are!!
