i was wondering if anyone could tell me what sword this is. It has C.E. and back to back squirrels on it. its very hard to make out do to the wear. Thanks for your time!!!

According to my copy of Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn, Wurttemburg, Baden and Hesse all utilized the knuckle bow that your sword has, which is not common in German swords. I think Austrian swords also utilized that design. Your sword might be a Hessian model 797 Infantry officer's saber but I cannot tell for sure without seeing the backstrap. I hope this helps

Welcome to the forum. In agreement, this example is the less commonly seen Lionhead version of Hessian Infantry Officer's saber. Most likely of WW I vintage. Best Regards, Fred
