Paul- I would be inclined to say no as it really appears to be roughly made rather than jeweler or handmade by a jeweler. There are some who do believe rougher trench art ss pieces existed in the period. I think they were much more likely postwar made in my opinion. I would test the ring for the 835 silver if it looked really good in hand- it should be smooth and comfortable not rough or scratchy inside also. If the ring does not test close to the silver value as marked of course the answer is obvious imho.

Thanks Andy and all. This came in from a large Vet grouping. It's heavily patinaed. Ok will dispose of it.

On a side note Paul I am sure if you have a paid membership it would sell easily as a reproduction if priced as such here on the estand amongst the ring collectors.

Yea, can't imagine it was just going to be thrown away. Lots of non ring guys would buy it, cause we can't afford a real ring. Always room in my trash can. Ed

I see no problem with a repro being sold as a repro. 2 of our members here- Hapur and Evgeniy -have really made top notch honor ring reproductions, and they sell them as such. Many people enjoy Them as much as real rings. This thread and its pictures and comments will exist as evidence to what this ring actually is long after it has been passed along to someone else. All one needs to do is some honest research and they can see the facts about this ring for themselves. Imho the only problem or risk that exists is when unscrupulous people insist on selling Fakes as Real. That should be enough to anger any collector.

I would throw it in a box and keep it. There is no real proof either way that it is good or bad. Who knows maybe a photo in wear will pop up one day.
