My leave of absence will be for a little while longer.. The loss of literally pounds of period reference material has really hurt the book project. Still not sure of whats to come but lets hope something positive..

Unforeseen problems etc. has kept me away ,,,health and personal.

Something positive though..

We finally have found a shop to rent that will be big enough to do what we want.. We have been missing out on business because of not having the room. Also we use a lot of boxes and the storage of them was/is a problem because of flooding so it was a serious problem..
Well the new place will be great. When done I'll post some photos..

For now some eye candy to enjoy wile I'm gone... This skull a bit over polished but thats how I got it. It's my sometimes wearer as it has no Swas or SS on it.. Make sure your bands on the rings your looking at are thin, even and high polish inside as well as very god detail on the outer band. don't be put off by a hallmark on the outside, depending on the country sometimes thats where they are..

Happy hunting and be careful!

Hi guys.... I'ts time to enjoy my retirement.. New house to mess with,, a M/C to restore,,, new shop opening soon. I've done my time here and more.. Thank you Vern and Dave for this venue.

IF your not happy with a ring your looking at , the lest bit suspicious,,don't buy it..

Some facts to leave you all with:

Although it seems like there are 1000s of a pattern made , there wasn't. The amount of rings are finite! Some patterns only a few hundred made.. After 70+ years your lucky to find a WestWall Spiral that is authentic.... After 40 years, piles of period reference, period tooling collection, I can say confidently Say. More than 95% of the rings we like were pressed. That by late 43 hardly any were being sold. Adverts ran but not many buyers. The Axis was losing. Germans already knew 44 would bring hard times,,,they weren't buying rings.. Most of the really nice rings were pre war and early war..

At the big SuperShows here in the US [ MAX , SOS ] you also lucky to find a couple of authentic rings [not including campaign/field mades]. Sure there are some good ones out there. If you recognize them,,buy them!

And for those buying military to make a future profit,,,good luck. 10 years or so none of this stuff will be worth hardly anything. The dagger gurus will be gone,,the awards guys, cloth and rest of the experts won't have to answer for the bullshit they have sold when alive. Hey anyone remember Detliv Nieman [ spelling?]. Smart dude. Had a site guys would wait up all nite / early morning to buy his wares!.. Where is he now,,yes, smart indeed..

Good health and fortune friends. Enjoy your rings and collections. Buy what makes you happy...., Gaspare

I understand your reasoning and you are smart for doing it! Life is too short for some of the petty stuff in the hobby today. Enjoy life to the fullest.
I will have to thank you for all the help and without you I would not have posted my ring. I appreciate your honesty assistance in doing so..
Take care and check in once in a while.
Ron

Just a note to say thank you for your time and knowledge on this site. Hope you chime in time to time. After all, the Ring Forum is all that is on here now.
Yes, all this stuff will be, and is now, pritty much worthless. The collector circle has done that to every thing collectable. Only the Best of the Best is valuable.
I have two homes FULL of stuff. Bin at it from about 10, I'm now 70. Only thing that has held it's value is guns. Military stuff has really slid down. The SOS this year was really bad.
The big shows are a meeting of friends to swap stories, they seen unwilling to deal to sell anything of value. I still love the stories and the looking, but tired of bringing home cash I planned to spend.
Good luck, and happy living.
That's a real sweet Triumph.

I've got 2 dak rings that I intend to pass on to my grandson who is 3 years old with the clear instruction that he cannot have them until he is twenty one years old, hopefully he will enjoy them as much as I have , as to them gaining in value over the years, that's anyones guess. mike

Gaspare,

I hope you are not riding into the sunset completely. This forum will not be nearly the same without you for so many reasons.

I plan to retire myself at the end of 2019 but hope to continue being able to tap into your knowledge and experience. It is quite unique and keeps us all real.

I wish you good health, happiness, long life and success in restoring that beautiful machine. My dad had a Triumph motorbike in the fifties when he was in the RAF. Class!

Cheers,

Stephen

I sure hope he does also. Not sure what the next 20 years will bring, it's getting real bad.
My grandsons are all grown and have there own stuff. Lucky they are all interested in firearms. Must have been those weekends on the mountain at the log cabin and that Daisy 105, then the 5mm Blue streak, the Remington 66, and then the AR. They are all interested in the military stuff, but not like the guns. They all have there popers, and they did not start at the bottom like I did, right to the good stuff. Of course they all make way more money than I did, and have no problem spending it. They are the new gen, and want there own things, not dads or grandpas. Good luck, and start him early.

Concerning Gaspare, with my limited understanding of the english language I truely hope it is NOT what I think to understand! Gaspare is the soul of this part of the forum and a valuable and important part of the whole forum.

Agreed there is no greater contributor to the betterment of the knowledge to the ring collector than Gaspare and this forum. The archived threads here on this ring forum contain to date the single greatest compilation of shared knowledge and discussions on rings made during the period and other eras and nations. All anyone really has to do is read and research through these threads and discover for themselves the familiar patterns and processes. I can imagine that Gaspare has repeated himself countless times back again to the same patterns and processes. I imagine it being a bit tiring to say the least. Beyond that- this niche of the hobby has yet to produce a book exhaustive or expansive on the subject of said rings- so one might deduce that until this should happen in any definitive motion- the repetition is bound to recur ad nauseum. Although it would seem that the many honor ring publications would repudiate this fact- the failing there is that the scope of speculation from each authors viewpoint goes well beyond the simple pattern and process thereby making disagreements inevitable. Furthermore I feel that insistent fakes and fakers along with those who truly just intend to bring disorder and trouble seem to be par for the course in the new generation of collectors. It is tiresome and frustrating.

Gaspare is one of the proper guys for sure. What a great bloke, not just his knowledge of militaria and rings especially, but he has been through many difficult situations with floods etc and always bounced back. I admire that, but also how readily he will offer his help, on several occasions he's helped me out. I plan to keep in touch occasionally via e -mail, hopefully that can continue for many years. We will miss him if he's out of the forums that's for sure.

Hello, Jon,

We have not had the pleasure of your company for a while. I hope the quest for Blood Orders is going well.

If you have a minute, we'd enjoy seeing your latest catch.

Dave
