I bought a box of items at an auction which included the bayonet below. The estate being auctioned had an incredible collection of rare and museum quality firearms, Civil War gear, etc. I've never encountered a dress bayonet with wood grips whose surface is contoured to resemble stag. I'm not a bayonet collector, per se, but have owned several over the years. So, is this unusual/ valuable? No maker's markings on the bayonet or scabbard.

Very late war made...you can find carved wood grips instead of stag.
I have a couple of 1942 over shoulder Eickhorn dress bayonets with carved wood.

Always looking for Eickhorns and etched bayonets.

Thank you. Does having them add or detract value? Are they scarce?

Similar wood grips were used probably in various periods on lower cost pieces. It would be interesting to see the other side of handle and rivet heads. b.r.Andy

Strange fitting on handle and rivets with material under it, mostly postwar replacement. b.r.Andy

That's a bit of grass under the rivet. They still have dirt on the grips and in the pommel. It appears they haven't been cleaned since they were picked up off the ground in WW2. Same with a couple other items from this collection.

The right grip looks like not alligned with handle backspine, maybe the rivets are loosy and the grips could be moved on tang, by looking at wood it doesnt look like a nut, anyway maybe i am wrong and the grips are period. b.r.Andy
