Here's something I picked up at the last Kassel show, I'm looking to try and identify the use of the knot, I've always thought of these as either Navy or Army use, perhaps the tag helps with identification, I can't seem to make out exactly what it says. Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

Gary

Gary,,

Can you estimate the overall length of the knot to see if it's longer than 42cm? The material inside the dot is interesting. Great looking item but sorry, no idea of the tag's writing.

Hello Baz69, how hard I try I cannot find anything to read what makes sense. Even the big photograph let me clueless.
I can add only three facts (which you perhaps know already but I will write them down also for other members): The "dot" material is ok and sometimes seen by several kinds (branches and material) of period officer knots. It is simply the NCO uniform tresse used as fill material instead of the seperately woven fine cord (navy) or band (army, luft). Either a manufacturers variant or rather a lack of other material or a manufacturing time saving process.
The tag is one of a distributor, not the manufacturer itself. So the first word could also be a trace to anything but the use. The word looks like "Mauersb." but I am not sure about the "M" which also could be a slobby witten "St" or something similar.
The "cellon" material of the portepee to my best knowledge can be find with all three branches during the period, army, navy luft portepees. I do own luft and navy cellon myself.

Guys

Thank you both for the replies,
Billy
Without removing the cotton tie I can't be sure but I would estimate it is 42cm rather than anything longer.

Wotan
Thanks for the clarification, I have looked long and hard at the writing as well and could not make any sense of it, with the length of the cord I suspect it's going to be either army or Navy,

Cheers

Gary
