This photo was taken at the US Army OCS graduation formal dance at Fort Benning about 5 years ago. As the candidates have not been commissioned yet, they wear blank shoulder boards and "OCS" rather than "US" brass in their upper lapels.

There is something about the uniform of one soldier that you seldom see. What is it?

2nd man on the left is wearing a Navy Unit Commendation along side his Army Meritorious Unit Citation. You are right, don't see that often.

It's the 2nd man from the right. Branch insignia it's not adjutant, what is it? He looks like he is missing an arm.

Nope.

The second guy from right is wearing his branch insignia which is the Adjutant General Corp into which he was commissioned not long after this picture was taken. The guy on the left is Engineers, the next Armor, the guy you mentioned AGC, and the right hand guy is Military Intelligence.

There is still one strange item to spot.

If I was able to blow up the picture, I could look closer at ribbons but can't.

1st man on the left wearing 1st marine division service Identification badge. If I was able to blow up the picture, I could look closer at ribbons but can't.

Correct !

All soldiers may wear the insignia of "their significant" combat unit on the lower right of their uniform. It used ti be they wore the patch on their right shoulder.

So .... What is a US Army officer candidate doing wearing the insignia of the 1st Marine Division ?

( I don't know the answer myself )

With the ASU or dress blues you don't wear patches like the old class A's. The ex- Marine is wearing it because he is authorized to wear it. Just like the ex-Navy man wearing his awards. Best
