As seller will not state the true condition the way this skull ring was found i feel that it is necessary for a potential buyer to know the truth. (did notice this skull ring sell in auction format about a month ago in true condition as shown, obviously repairs done to the ring).

I would agree that appears to be a repair and a cleaning. Good eye man!

Wow ,,what a mess... Is it a hollow skull? Haven't seen that skull.. , anyway they did a good job whoever did it....
A seller should always show/tell everything they know about a ring their selling,,full disclosure!

This guy that is defending his buddy from Latvia should check his eyesight first before he said that to others. Check the whole ring before you speak!

he who does not see the difference between these rings. either blind or ill-treated to ring owner. This is not my ring and I do not know its owner. Soon I will take beer and chips, reading similar topics.

Yes i can see that you are full of wisdom. As you take some beer and chips take some time again and look at photos of this ring more closely!

They did good job on repairing this ring and did lot of polishing and cleaning but still there are areas that shows it is the one and the same ring.

Just noticed ring maked today as sold on estand after no activity since it was posted for sale on 11/22.
Would be nice to know who is the buyer if there is really one!

For me pretty much looks like the same ring.. Remember the whole ring wasn't just repaired but looks like a complete rework.. Besides, what is the odds of 2 of this weird looking ring both appearing at the same time.

I was wondering how it came to be so badly damaged in the first place. Is it worth so much as to be worth what is clearly an amazing repair job?

Ground dug rings are often found in poor condition. Sometimes they have been cut off a finger, other times just as a result of being crushed under soil, hit by shells, run over by tanks, hit by a pick shovel or rock, freezing and thawing- you name it. They lived rough lives under the ground for 70 plus years.... the earth takes what it wants and leaves the rest for history.

Thanks Mike, good points.
So, assuming that it is for sale, does anyone know how much this reconstructed ring is selling for? My question is really about why anyone would spend the time, expertise and money to repair such a badly damaged ring? I appreciate the skill and workmanship but it is not an SS Ehrenring whose cost and rarity might justify all that effort.
Cheers,
Stephen

I've seen it plenty of times,,as Mike wrote,,the ground does weird things to rings and such in the ground. One extreme temp to the other, the compression the expansion. It will do the job!

Ring sold for 150 euro... Yes that is a lot of repair work to do to the ring and then ask 150e for it ! But maybe the finder is skilled and did it himself.. Or there is still plenty of out of work craftsmen around who for 30 euro or so would do it.. so if the ring was found for free from the ground, then to sink 30 or even 50 euro to get 150e it becomes worth it...

* Ado,, where did you find the 'before' photos of the ring?

As Gaspare has requested here are all the photos i have of the original condition of this ring which sold on the biggest auction site for about $45. I was ready to buy but this ring just gave me some red flags that i didn?t like. Like i said before whoever have redone this ring did a good job. Only at the waf sale post seller should have stated the true previous condition of this ring.

I see 2 instances where it could be the same ring..

here is one: The distance from the 800 content mark seems to be the same to where you can ever so slightly see the repair,,, same distance

2nd one:

The marks, or wear spots seem to be the same.. Remember, the ring was repaired and polished afterwards so a bit difficult,,but Looks like it to me..

3rd reason,,what are the odds of such a weird skull pattern appearing both around the same time. One in pieces,,the other a bit over polished..
No matter, everyone will see what they want to see.. As long as the new owner is happy,, thats all you can wish for!

Interesting thread!

All those points you made Gaspare and then the cut angles under which the ring was repaired (soldering) same angles are there and visible. Plus we cannot miss out this part which they didnt clean very well...(in circle)!

So really,,there is enough evidence to show its the same ring,,,, and then there's the law of probability. - It is the same ring:

I've bought rings like that ,,[the 'before']. Also got them from the ground like that in pieces... Only have 2 repaired rings.... * I believe that the seller should disclose all info about a ring they are selling. 'it's been polished', its been extensively repaired, etc. etc.

* Something,,,I've seen rings sold,,bought,, and resold TWICE in one day at a show!! , So giving the seller the benefit of the doubt,,,,maybe he didn't know?,,maybe he bought it and had the suspicion it was repaired and figured I'd better move this now.... So it's something like one of those...
Who ever the person who did the work,, I gotta give a 'Congratulations as that's pretty dam good work!
