The school safety buckle shown on the buckle page shows a red cross on the buckle with a green circle around it. It should have a green cross in the center not a red cross. (Green Safety Cross). Is anyone familiar with this buckle? The buckle actually reads Schulerlostensdienst Verkerswacht.

I'll remove that buckle from the Gallery. It does come in 2 varieties, green circle with red cross and green circle with green cross. I was told that the red cross version was pre-1945, After further research, both versions are post war. Thanks very much for bringing this to my attention.

I am familiar with the buckle. I was in the 6th grade (1960) in Germany attending Nurnburg American Elementary School located in Furth Germany. I was a school crossing guard and was issued that very buckle. The buckle was worn on a white patrol boy belt which went around your waist and over your shoulder. (Just like American patrol boys). I still have it. The cross is green as well as the circle around it. I looks exactly like a WWII belt buckle to me. I always figured they were left over from the war. I also was issued a white hooded raincoat with the same emblem on it. There is a picture of this buckle on page 151 of Thomas Reid's "German Belt Buckles" book. He was unsure if is was post war or war. I don't think anyone knows if it is war or post war for sure.

Thanks for the info. The buckle is valuable to me because I wore it while in Germany almost 60 years ago. I don't think I have heard of eMedals. I will look for it. I looked at the one on eMedals. Someone did a poor job repainting that buckle. Mine is pristine compared to that one.
