I am amazed at the ignorance of some buyers. I have watched 2 separate "Hungarian Para Trooper" daggers sell on Ebay in the past two weeks. one sold for more than $400 and one for almost $600. They are fantasy daggers that never existed.

Could be they just have more money than a lot of other people. A lot of fantasy daggers and knifes are sold at the SOS and MAX.
I have friends that call me nuts for spending the money I do on any german daggers.
It is a kind of cool looking dagger.

Hi Ed would those same friends call someone nuts for spending $20,000 on a tin Made in Japan 1955 robot, or $10,000 for a 1959 barbie or $55,000 for a 1930s Mickey Mouse toy???? All of these toys sold originally for less than $5.00 how about $75,000 for one baseball card or $100,000 for a .10 cent comic book? cheers, Ryan

I do not disagree with either of you on the value of buying antiques and oddities, but this is a fantasy piece being traded as real. Unless some new market for fakes and fantasies opens up, these buyers are screwed.

They are really cool looking. The price of an original Hungarian Air Force dagger is less than these fantasies are trading for.

Yes, kind of.
Don't come to my house, ether one, unless you want to see the hundreds of old Lionel trains, cap pistols, cars, trucks, airplanes, etc, etc, etc.
Been doing it for 50 years.
My point was, people do there thing, whatever it is. Really does not make them foolish, just in love with what they collect. The h*^@! with everybody else.
Enjoy!!

Ed, I am not talking about people doing things foolish. I am talking about fraud. So if a person sells a fake SS dagger, but the buyer thinks it is pretty, you say that the sale is somehow OK. It is a crime. Any person that misrepresents a daggers originality and sells it to an unsuspecting buyer is committing a crime. .

I was not that clear in my first post.
THERE ARE NO ORIGINALS OF THIS DAGGER. IT IS A FANTASY DAGGER. It came out a few years ago and myself and others posted photos and warnings on the web sites including this one. They stopped for a while but then I noticed the two mentioned above. It is obvious that the buyers believe the lying sellers and believe they are buying original pre WWII daggers. They are not. It is fraud, a crime in the US.

NO!!
I said nothing about fraud, or people selling repos as real. Thats buyer beware, first thing to lrarn no matter what you are buying, daggers, guns, coins, toys, etc.
But these fantasy daggers all over ebay with the skull tops and such, people really have to know they are fake, there are always six or so for sale at a time.
SS daggers? Well we al know there are a hell of a lot more now then at the end of the war.
Would I put out 20,000.00 for a rare chained, no, but some might want a nice repo for 800.00.
Fraud is fraud, and a crime. But finding a fish to buy junk, maby not.
I ment no insult.

Jim, trading with fantasy Hungarian daggers never ends. It is crazy. I am tired of warn collectors about them.
