The members of the police companies who fought in Finland against the Russians were eligible for a so called Police Honour Medal.
This medal came in 2 classes, all rare, but the 2nd class one being much more difficult to find.
I already had 2 copies of the 1st class medal, one with a repaired suncross. I finally found this 2nd class medal, and after some fierce bidding, managed to snag it for my small Norwegian collection.
Here it is for you to enjoy along with me.

The National Samling Ungdomsfylking (NSUF) was the Norwegian equivalent to the Hitler Youth.
There were two versions of the NSUF membership pins, one painted with a shorter pin and one enamelled with a longer pin. As is typical of a lot of enamel work from that era, the enamel is damaged. This pin also has the 925S silver marking on the rear.
Here are shots of the two pins, the first one is the painted version, the second grouping is of the enamelled version, just in from Norway last week.

The Nasjonal Samling Youth Group engaged in regular sports competitions.
Medals were commissioned and given out in bronze, silver and gold classes, as well as participation medals for each competition starting in the summer of 1941.
Here is an example of such, a bronze medal for the summer games of 1941 in Drammen.

The Nasjonal Samling in Norway had three female groups, or Hird.
The youngest girls could be members of the Smahird, teen girls could join the Jentehird and adult females the Kvinnehird.
It took me quite a while, but I finally found a Kvinnehird membership badge.
Here it is along with badges for the other two organizations.

The Nasjonal Samling had annual meetings, some years in Hamar and some in Oslo.
6 of the 8 annual meetins had commemorative badges issued for them.
Today, I recieved the last two that I needed of the 6, one for the 1936 and one for the 1939 meetings.
Here they are.

Norwegians were divided into two camps, those who supported the Nazis and the Nasjonal Samling and those who resisted.
Resistance came in many forms, from active groups within Norway to armed fighters from outside Norway to those who served in the Norwegian merchant marine during the war years to earn money for the government in exile to continue to fight.
The king of Norway during the war years was Haakon VII and a series of badges and pins were issued for private purchase (probably part of the war financing effort) with the motif, H7, for the people who resisted.
Here are my two latest H7 badges as well as my collection of them.
These last two arrived in the past week making this start of 2015 my best year ever.

Here are three new badges for me.
The first is a bronze sports award. These came in two versions, this one with a cut out centre and ones with solid centres. As usual, they came in bronze, silver and gold versions.
The second and third badges commemorate a meeting, Siklestad, in Oslo in 1942.

H7 was teh symbol of Norwegian resistance and stood for Haakon 7, the king in exile.
These four beret badges were all manufactured in the UK and spanned the years from 1942 to 1945.
The maker mark appears on all 4 badges as well as the year code ('S' for 1942, 'T' for 1943, U' for 1944, 'V' for 1945). Of these, the 'V' dated one is the hardest to find.
These badges were worn by Norwegian free armed forces members.

The guys who fought for the Axis side were generally treated as war criminals and subject to jail or execution following the war's end... they would not be given one of these.
My father in law got one given out in the 1980's when Norway belatedly recognized the role that the merchant marine played in winning the wsr. This was typical of most Allied nations, a shame really. He was kind of pissed and never did show his medal to anyone or talk much about his war experiences.

Instituted on Oct 27, 1942, and issued as a ribbon to those in the armed forces stationed in Great Britian, this medal was also given out after the war and issued with the Participation Medal (deltakermedaljen).
It celebrates Haakon VII's birthday on Aug 3, 1942.
This also was given out only to those who fought on the Allied side.

Instituted on May 18, 1945, this medal was awarded to foreign and Norwegian personnel who served the Norwegian cause during the war.
The initial production with this needle suspension (similar to the one for the Haakon VII 70th birthday above) was awarded to some 204 Norwegians and 597 British citizens.
In 1988, the medal was reissued with a traditional needle to 12,178 civilians who served at least 54 months on Norwegian merchant ships during the war.
Here is the earlier version with case and its corresponding miniature.
Again, this was only given to those on the Allied side during the war years.

Thanks, G!
These ones are the 'common' ones for Norway war related medals.
Now, the hunt is on for the really rare ones, like the War Cross with Sword (krigskorset med sverd) and the King Haakon VV Liberty Cross ... these two were given out to 273 people and some 470 respectively.
As usual, the fun is in the hunt.

There were some 700 Nordmen who volunteered in Finland for the Winter War against the Russians.
These Norwegians were eligible for a special medal. It was given to people who eventually ended up on both sides of the war after the German invasion of Norway.
There are two versions of this medal.
I just received this one.

The NS held their 8th convention in Oslo on Sept 25-27, 1942.
They issued a booklet and a badge for the attendees.
On my latest trip to Norway, I managed to snag the bookleet, already having a copy of the badge.

The AT (Arbeidstjeneste) were Norway's equivalent to the German RAD.
Here is a pin for the AT administration.
In 1944, the NS instituted a heroic deed or lifesaving medal (Medaljen for Redningsdad). Only 25 of these were ever made and 18 were actually issued between, 1944 and 45. All of them were made by J Tostrup of Oslo. Note that the maker mark is also preceded by the Norwegian silver hallmark of 830S. Here is one of the 25.

I also picked up this collection from one female member of the youth organization and eventually the female portion of the NS.
The collection consists of 6 paper documents, all from the NSUF, the youth. Also, armband and patch, the jentehird pin (#7) and her NS membership book, the KO pin (#1579) and membership book, and I added a Stor-Oslo cufftitle used by the NSUF.
Papers in next post.
