Fellow collectors I would like to ask Your opinion on this boot knife. I considered this one as a WW1 close combat knife and after some period of owning it sold. Now I'm accused that this is not a WW1 combat knife but this is a fake. I/m a little confused ad would like to hear Your opinion. I know that lots of WW1 weaponery (edged) was private purchased and let's say custom made. I do not want to be treated as a cheater (people make mistakes). That is why I ask. If it is fake I want to refund but want to be a bit closer to the truth. Thanx for help...

Looks like a cut down and remade stag handled (ww2 era) k98 dress bayonet. Not an expert in this field by any means, but it?s my first impression of it. I?d be surprised if it was a fake bayonet if that were the case.

Hi Mike, thanx for the input. I wold agree that it is a WW2 era bayo redone (shortened) but please tell me how to achive such a shape and remove fullers on both sides of the blade. IMO impossible. There is an opinion that it is a private purchase officer combat knife.

you are right on target here what you have is a genuine ww1 fighting knife with original scabard some of these fighting knives were not marked with the imperial crown marks but the stag handles were added at a later date perhaps in ww2 i have had several thru the fifty five years of this great hobby the shape of the blade is very unique this fighting knife is genuine period made and only altered was the stag grips last it is not a cut down knife at all hope you enjoy your great ww1 knife god bless all andy militarynut

good morning to you please forgive me for not mentign about the bayonet slot i have had some that the slot was open to accept the mauser rifle if needed but most slots were sealed i believe dummys like me then used for a fighting knife only but you found a real original treauser best of luck with it have a geat day andy militarynut

I'm not a dagger guy,,,but when younger I had a large fighting knife collection... Andy is 100% correct. These were authentic to the period with functioning bayo slot, button etc.. Matter of fact I remember I had 3,,,I had one exactly like this,,, and another that looked exactly like this but the grips/scales were wood! made to look like antler!, the last one had black diamond pattern grips..
But man what a nice job they did on the wood - antler simulation.. At first I thought maybe a 'in field' done job or postwar. ..Then had a friend show me a period advertisement for them!!!!
