Hi,
I need help please, I'm thinking of buying this Luftwaffe 2nd pattern it looks ok to me with my limited knowledge and in very nice condition the pommel seems to be WKC as does the scabbard, the Grip has twisted wire but the crossguard is not as shown in Wittmans book but I have looked around and seen other WKC's with this style crossguard referred to as a Generic type which I think maybe WKC produced but I may have that wrong. So mainly it's the (generic?) crossguard that bothers me but as I have said it has been noted as used on WKC luft 2nd's on other sites and forums. Please have a look and give your opinions and advice I don't want to get burned or make a mistake as it's hard for me to save the cash for my purchases and I trust the knowledge of the guys here so let's see what you think, is this configuration ok?
Thanks, Andy.
Here is a link to the dagger in question dealer is good in my opinion long established and has a good reputation: WKC Luft 2nd.

I've done more checking of other WKC's online and this pattern crossguard seems to be on a few, any thoughts please! I want to grab it while it's still up for sale.
Thanks, Andy.

Hello AndyBurton, 2nd lufts are not as (often) easy to classify as armies concerning a special maker. Normally I do check the overall look and this one looks nice and has an equal finish of the grip parts and the scabbard looks adequate. So when looking at theses (few, small and not very detailed) pics I cannot see anything wrong with this dagger. It would be interesting if it has the single screw scabbard mouth.
All this said I normally see the common twisted aluminium wire on the grip. Here is another wire. This did occur on 2nd lufts from time to time.

Andy:

This is the small letter version of the WKC maker mark and looks good to me. The only issue for me (and not a big one at that) is the grip wire..I would have expected he springy aluminium type.

Here is my small letter version and a couple of comparison ones to show the small and large letters side by side.

Hi Wotan,
Here are some more pics of the same dagger showing the single side mounted scabbard throat screw, I think I'm good to go on this one there's a little bit of wear to the lower scabbard side but that doesn't bother me and I think the twisted wire is ok too. Do you think this is all correct for WKC? from what I've been told here and read on other forums etc. it all seems good to me.
Cheers, Andy.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply the grip wire is now the only thing that is nagging me but I have found several the same on the net so would you or anyone say this grip wire is ok on a WKC 2nd Luft? Please give your opinions as I am close to buying this dagger but the grip wire question is now holding me back. Here are pics of two examples I have found but one is Ivory with thicker wire and one on Lakeside Traders site here: https://www.lakesidetrader.com/item.php?ID=19155

I have a WKC also with the brass grip wire, it bothered me some time back and I found several other WKCs with the same characteristic, obviously used during the period for whatever reason, I suspect we will never know...

If everything else is satisfactory (and I think yes) and the price is right, I would go for it.

Thanks everyone for your help, I've made my decision now and it's on layaway so will have it in about two weeks, will post some better photos of my own when I have it.
Cheers, Andy.
