I've noticed something since the site is back.. Seems to be getting worse and worse to me.. Photos.. The copies are getting better and better across the boards. Blades, badges, cloth, equipment, everything..And, the photos seem to be worse lately! A 16kb photo showing no detail, out of focus, poor light and the member wants an authentication!! We're playing here with photos like that..
I guess no one wants to invest in cameras anymore now that phones take a pretty good photo. Pretty good doesn't cut it guys.. It a waste of time. Then the member get the attitude that we can't tell them anything to.. .
We have a small limit here.. under 160kb for a regular member... 260kb for a Premium member or Mod. . Check, it shows you when you pull up the photo. 16kb,,25kb,,40kb,,,thats nothing. can't do shit with that no matter how good you are...
Find a way to increase your file size.. Experiment a little. Cropping is very easy to do.. Take a big photo and then crop down to just the item and get it to 160. Yes you might even have to take a few photos.... Try, experiment.. You can get a decent photo at even the 160kb size..
I've got a 8 or 9 year old Nikon cool pix P80. bought it new,,not really too expensive.. But now used ,,they're cheap and you can do many things with them. There are other brands I'm sure that were super hot 5 years ago that you can get cheap now... Maybe hold off on the variant wound badge or whatever for the month and get yourself a camera!
*Am I wrong about this? maybe its just me? On my forum,, I just can't help a guy anymore posting a 40 kb photo and wanting to know the smallest of details about it.....,G.

Hi, I use an old Samsung Galaxy S that you can pick up for peanuts now and it takes good photos of my Daggers and will do good close ups using the cameras Macro setting. For really close up work such as maker marks etc. on daggers and medals I got this today a little USB Digital Microscope, I would advise any collector to get one of these it's usb so you just download the software to your pc or different software for other devices then plug directly into pc or smart phone etc. and off you go. Easy to use focus, has it's own diffused anti glare led lights and can take single pics, time lapse pics or video, has its own little flexi holder, can be hand held and also comes with a measurement printed platform that it attaches to. As an example here are two shots of the maker mark on a EK2 suspension ring that was difficult to read and photograph, the first pic is taken with my old Galaxy S as clear as I could get it and the second with the digital microscope which will go in closer than this. Lastly is the microscope I bought, it only cost me 30 British pounds which is $41.92 or 33.83 Euro. You will most likely need to resize your photos which is easy to do there is a link here on the forum http://phpstack-500133-1583587.cloudwaysapps.com/~germand2/ubbthreads.php/topics/336682/easy-to-use-photo-resizer.html#Post336682 and it helps to use either a tripod or just rest your hand and camera against something to steady your hands I use a block of wood or a suitable box, use either a daylight lamp for indoors or natural light outside which is better still. Hope this helps in some way if you're struggling to get half decent photos and close ups and shows you don't have to pay loads of money or buy the top brand names. Cheers, Andy.

Nice Andy!! at least if you were asking about a maker mark it can be seen.. And,, that photo is only 23kb!! it could be much larger!! The EK2 is 147kb,,could be bigger too but thats also a good shot.. Takes a bit of practice and experimenting... Good work!
