1st,,,E.,,you have some ring boxes,,come on and post one or 2!!
2.. Please correct me if Im wrong..From my understanding the star with hammer & sickle didn't officially start being used in 1958?
So anything before that date was hallmarked with a content [Zolotniks] and later with a woman's head then mans and letters from the district..
Would that be correct?

Hello, Gaspare, Evgeniy is right, this is Soviet ring box from 50s.
Ringbox for this ring should be in pre-reform russian language.

What do the ring hallmarks look like? Can they be dated like in some other countries? Certainly the box is from the Soviet era- CCCP doesnt stand for community Christian Church preschool lol

so we are in agreement that the hammer and sickle with star was not used for jewelry until 1958..
There were skull rings advertised and sold shortly before the revolution,,and maybe in circulation afterwards..
AND, the box translates to say ,,,'Ministry of trade affairs'... And, it was meant for a ring,,,but what kind..

SO please,,because I'm having trouble exactly identifying these hallmarks.. I know the ring has been in the box at least since 1960 that the family remembers. I got them from neighbors on my wifes old block in Vinnistsa.. So, can anyone ID these marks exactly?

Interesting post Evgeniy! So we know the box is for a ring, and marked 'Ministry of trade affairs'.. Early after the Revolution things were a mess. We do know and have seen the famous advertisement for a Skull & Snake ring Russian and just before the revolution. So what happens to these rings? Sold? ,,that wasn't supposed to happen. Given away? I truly don't know. What happened to all the jewelry stock from private jewelers? And what exactly was this 'Ministry of Trade Affairs'? You living in one of the 10 ten greatest cities in the world and this ring & box is Russian / East European[?] can you research it more?

Mike,,could be,,,but the Batic countries had their own hallmarks..
Then there were guys like General Kornilov,,bandit or hero depending on who's side you were on. He was around 1917,18 etc. He ans some men were rumored to wear skull rings.. Where did they get them? I don't think he had them made up special. Maybe just left over stock.. All we know is this Ministry, a ring box and a pre Soviet made S&S ring!

Evgeniy,, I am open to that! But Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian hallmarks don't look like whats on back of the ring.. We do know there were some S&S rings in Russia, before , during and after the revolution. Looks like I have to do more research on the box.. Thanks all..

nice ring also made by Frisch firm. The initials inside the ring (A.F.) are the same in appearance as on the jeweler box! my brooch was made by Anton Frisch's grand-son, Ragnar Frisch in the late 1930's I think, around 1938. Ragnar was an apprentice to the David Andersen workshop in Oslo before joining his family firm. It is marked on the back to match the box.

I have been concentrating on SS honor ring boxes for a very long time now and know a very small bit of information/history finally. A lot of dumb luck. Made a promise can not reveal sorry. So why say anything, because I can lol. I know, I know some will be butt hurt.

Mikee,, when ever you get the free time and inclined to do so we'd love to see that box... They do turn up from time to time. I saw one a couple years ago,,price was high,,probably worth it.. For some reason I remember Odal also owning one, not sure though.
Andy.,, You have had every kind of Honor Ring box there is. The are rare,,rarer than the Honor Ring! Small, delicate its amazing any survived. Yes I remember a couple years back a decent counterfeit HR box started to emerge. They were pretty good looking but when compared to one of yours then easy to see. That is the problem. The originals so seldom come about that you really have to be careful what your going to buy.. Those copy HR boxes were stopped thanks to guys like you who weren't afraid to go up to the dealers who had them and say 'Those are fake' and were prepared to debate them on it.., Thanks..
As far as Private Purchase ring boxes your pretty safe checking them when you get your ring ,if there are no plastics nor other synthetics and follow the styles of the day then your good.
