For those of you who have not read the hotel Lederer is to be demolished next month. Members here may know the hotel which has been in the Lederer family since 1936 by its former name The infamous hotel Hanslbauer, Bad Wiessee and room 7, now room 335. Yes this is the hotel where Ernst Rohm was staying and that Hitler stormed on the night of the Long Knives. Herr Lederer at 81 still resides in the hotel that his father purchased in 1936. The hotel has been purchased by a wealthy developer and all efforts to save and preserve the hotel have failed. A French film crew has toured the hotel to film a documentary on that fateful and historic night. Another example of history purged. cheers and best, Ryan

When a law is passed to protect removal of history..since then..history will continue to be denied and removed the same as what the Nazis did themselves.

Until then..the their minds will remain small and closed.

Maybe it is just an old building that cannot be upgraded any longer.

Herr Lederer, although no longer the owner still lives in the hotel with his housekeeper. The building is still furnished and appears in good repair. Regardless of condition it remains an important piece of Third Reich history, especially amongst those who collect Ernst Rohm daggers. I thought it worthy of inclusion here cheers and best

Really a pity... a historical place indeed. The kind of history Germans try to forget, at least at the eyes of the world.
I was in Berschtesgaden (Berghof) a couple months ago. For me a single piece of brick has its history.

I visited also Wewelsburg... you should see how they have the generals room... with chairs, tables and pillows covering the black sun...

I can post a pic if you want...

Cheers.

Great topic. I'd be interested to see pictures MarcGB.

A real shame about the many german historic buildings disappearing due to the new flavor of political correctness.

This thinking is beyond escape here too.
Obviously the scale has flipped all the way to the other side.

I understand Germans may not be proud of their history but as obvious as it is... whatever is destroyed... it will never be there again. I don't see why places can not be kept as a memorial... not for cult but to explain what and where thinks happened. Shame and pity.

Marc, is the museum still attached to the Wewelsburg castle? I have a very old lithograph of a painting that was once in the castle. It is of a knight on horseback looking across the valley up at a castle. It is supposed to represent the knight looking for the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail castle. The only castle I have not been in is the Wewelsburg castle. I understand the painting was moved from the castle to the museum a number of years ago. Any help appreciated. James

Hi Jager. Both the museum and the memorial are attached to the castle. Half of the castle is dedicated to the history of the Wewelsburg, both the castle and the region.

I took many pics to paintings exposed. Will have a look at them and post. Not sure I pictured all of them but will look for the one you describe.

Cheers,

Marc
