Hi all..

As a newbie that I'm frown I think it would be a good idea to list here trusted sellers.

Inn this way, unexperienced buyers would have a place to look first.

Do you think this is an option?

In other posts I could find:

Of course, knowing your stuff is the first step... so, buy books, read them, talk about what you see there with others, like here at GDC.

Then, I have had good luck with the following (not in any particular order and not an exhaustive list by any means):

http://www.lakesidetrader.com/
http://www.wwiidaggers.com/
http://www.johnsonreferencebooks.com/
http://www.warrelic.com/
http://www.collectortocollectormilitaria.com/
http://www.theoldbrigade.co.uk/
https://therupturedduck.com/
http://www.vonryansexpress.com/main.htm
http://militarycollectiblesinc.com/

All of the above, while not perfect and always correct, are easy to deal with and back the items they sell. All of these people are also happy to help out both old, experienced collectors and fresh of the boat newbies.

I assumed Tom Wittmann's was one of the most trusted let's say... gurus in this world. Am I wrong?

Some of the items are restored (mostly grips)... but it's clear on the descriptions.

Your alert surprises me (which means nothing cause I'm a complete newbie... but persistent student).

For me my first 2 purchases went well but the third not so much buying from lakeside trader. Somehow there was an online ordering mix up and I never received an iron cross I ordered. As far as I know we are still waiting on a refund after inquiring into it.

My advice on trusting dealers is, don't trust a dealer. You have to remember its your money they want and some will say anything to get it. There are fakes and parts daggers popping up all the time on dealers sites and inaccurate descriptions about the pieces to fool you into buying them. If you want to buy a particular dagger then do as much of your own homework on the piece as you can, then if your still not certain ask on forums like this one where people with no financial interest will help you. I wont name any but there are dealers who in the militaria business are the equivalent of dodgy car salesmen.

Agree 100% Russ.

But in any case it's a good starting point for those who don't have the possibility to see the item and have to deal just with pictures.

I published a dagger here last week... your help was really appreciated indeed !!!!!! But still have doubts about possible repaintings of scabbard and motto... difficult to decide without a dagger in your hands... I found no reference about the seller and retracted to buy...

Good decision not to buy, if in doubt leave it out, that's what I say. Also remember if your taking a chance on a dagger then wish to return it your going to be out of pocket with postage, import tax, etc, as you wont get that refunded.

And don't forget about the scam of a 'restocking fee '.
