Is there a good book on Imperial decoratins?

Sad to say but most of the good books that deal with Imperial medals and decorations are written in German.

How deeply do you want to study this field? Are you looking for a visual reference or would you also like to know more of the history behind the awards, such as dates, categories and classes? There are several books in English that deal with specific medals like the Pour le Merite and Red Eagle Orders but then you're confined to a limited area of study.

If you let me know your preferences I'll try to lend a hand and make some suggestions ...

My German is rusty but I have a good dictionary > Mainly interested in visually identifying medals in WWI groups that I have been picking up just lately containing an EK2 and two or three other medals cheers Tony

My recommendations would be these two German volumes, the first being an oversize card-bound cigarette book simply titled, "Orden." It has a bright yellow cover with a lovely Blue Max on it. Published in the twenties/thirties by Waldorf-Astoria, M�nchen, and can be normally priced from around $75-125 US. If you find a copy make sure to ask if all the cards are present? It stinks to be missing any of these great color illustrations. Paul Casberg the famous TR edged-weapon designer did the page and line drawings throughout the book.

The second book is titled, "Die Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Reiches," by Dr. von Hessenthal and Georg Schreiber. Mostly text detailing the history of the awards from Duchies, Kingdoms, Principalities, etc. There's a small illustrated section at the back that has good clear black and white photos of many of the medals found on Imperial medal bars. This one usually lists for $80-100, but sometimes you may find one cheaper on eBay?

I think this combination will get you going and pointed in the right direction. I believe J�rg Nimmergut also did a good pocketbook series, "Orden & Ehrenzeichen 1800-1945." I have an old 1987/88 copy, but I'm fairly certain there were updated versions so those may be available, too.

I bought the EK trio that PVON offered in the sales section a week ago can you identify the one on the end with the motto "for faithful service by the flag" for me in the meantime?

You can see it in the for sale section scroll down to April 11th I think it is a Prussian nine year service medal but it has for service by the flag on same side as IX and just crown in wreath on other side which is different arrangement of the same elements that I have seen on others?Have located a copy of ORDEN

Bill have asked but is 287 a complete set of cards in ORDEN?
