But, Andy, I saw a Hollywood movie that definitely showed the Americans capturing the Enigma machine. What is fact and what is alternative fact?

As I recall, the Brits pointed out the historic inaccuracy while the movie was being made and Hollywood advised them to make their own version if they wanted to. A bit brazen even for those Americans.
But my memory could be off.

If movies required 100% accuracy, we'd all be watching re-runs of the Mickey Mouse Club

Dave, I believe you lived over seas at various times. Did you find it necessary to tell people that what they see on US television is not really how we live?
I found myself doing that a lot. A lot of people actually believe that all US students go to schools lie they see on 90210 and other Hollywood dreams. One woman asked me to teach her cuss words and was insulted when I tried to explain to her that educated people seldom used cuss words and that it was in appropriate for a woman to cuss.
Even growing up here I still have to remind myself and the kids that TV and Movies are not real.
So giving credit to the US in a US film made for US viewing (primarily), it is no big deal to us.
Not to mention I can quickly come up with at least one movie with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood where the Brits got top billing.

Jim,
The folks I worked with overseas did not believe that American TV actually portrayed America with any accuracy at all. A lot of their children did.

Not sure who did what when, and admittedly never saw the the film, only found the article. Worthwhile discussion however to give credit where credit is due, be it the US or UK.

There's a lot about WW2 we don't and never will know.
