So how did your collection fare in 2016? I've seen a lot of very desirable items come on the market for sale, both privately & on consignment to dealers' sites.

I did pretty well in 2015 in finding some pieces I needed for the dagger collection. 2016 was even better but not in the sense of finding specific models I needed. Most of these items are redundancies in my collection but there were things that made them special and those things made them irresistible to avoid.

Luftwaffe daggers always had a special appeal to me but I never owned one that was unique or special other than having a rare maker mark. This year I picked up not one but two that are awesome, first was an unmarked Alcoso presented from a father to his son. Then I found a Voos pattern etched example by Carl Julius Krebs.

If that were it, I would have been happy, but there was more. In addition, I found a wonderfully patinaed Eickhorn Government Official's dagger. In the "need" column, I snagged a minty transitional Eickhorn NSKK M36, a very nice DJ hirschfnger by Anton Wingen. Although I've limited my Polizei bayonet acquisitions, I managed to find a very nice slotted clamshell.

Normally, I don't look to pick up SS daggers beyond what I have already but I found one that spoke to me. It wasn't for sale but I managed with trades & cash to obtain a nice numbered partial Rohm SS. It was in an old collection that was recently liquidated and I'm happy it's now in mine.

And last but by far not least was a sawback Fire Official's dagger that was presented to a Kommandant on his 25th anniversary in service of the Feuerwehr. It's a beauty and although not dated, the maker mark is the elusive "triple" oval of Eickhorn, placing it within the 3R. This one was snatched from the weeds, as it were & possibly my favorite of this year.

Also found some assorted knots and hangers I needed, including a Customs bayonet knot, which I'd been looking for for a while. Yes, 2016 was good to me, I can only hope 2017 is half as nice.

So please share what you've found this year, I love to live vicariously through collecting colleagues smile

Those are some VERY nice acquisitions, you've been busy! I presume the NPEA was a Bergsmller? They certainly don't fall off trees these days.

My acquisitions in 2016:

Eickhorn 35-41 marked KS98 sawback
Lots of Norway medals and badges and armbands
Little Norway Police grouping
Unmarked but Eickhorn knife
Norway Fredrelandslaget papers (predecessor to Norway's Nasjonal Samling)
Eickhorn all aluminium Heer
Eickhorn Luft2 with 35-41 TM and Durbeck Wien distributor
Klaas Luft2 Voos style etch
3 Puma etched bayonets
A Lapplandfront pin
HJ knife RZM 7/66 41
2 Norway H7 pins

What I find gratifying is that there are still many things out there in collector land that I am finding to add to my collection.

May your 2017 be as good a year as ever for all of you.

John

Not much for me this year, redundancy and enforced early retirement make for difficult budgeting! However, straps for my eickhorn GO, knot and belt for my presentation Wingen DJ, and a superb full stag RAD with perfect anodized and lacquered scabbard

still after a TENO knot and some HJ Leader straps, so heres to 2017!
Happy New Year and good luck to all

Well gentlemen, crazy I went the other way around and sold many items this year. I'm not completely retired from the hobby yet but much of my interest has slowed down over the years and I'm now into other collectibles, none related to anything close to militaria. Here are some of the things I have sold and pretty much everything went through Paul Hogle, don't have time or interest in selling those things on my own, I'm not exactly running after every penney I can get for my collection. Here I have a mint NPEA, mint PO badge and a mint Himmler, I have sold many other things but too many to list.

Gentlemen,

It seems you have all indeed been busy within the hobby this year!

Paul,
I remember the Wingen DJ from your site & the details to it but the conditioning of your full stag RAD is astounding. It must have sat in someone's sock drawer for 75 years, wow!

Gary,
I'm always impressed with an item that impresses you & that blackened hirschfnger is no exception. Someone obviously loved their sidearms & had the funds to undertake such an item. Are those deer teeth in the clamshell? Just beautiful.

Pat,
I'm sorry to hear you've been selling off some of your items. The conditioning of all your items over the years has always been near pristine and these are right up there. I've often fantasized about doing what you're doing, selling some blades to fund other pursuits but I don't have the stones to do it. I hope you don't completely leave the hobby though.

Dow,
A super looking rig, especially with that bayo & scabbard. Tell me, will you take it to the range?

Bob,
That's a really nice SS M33, I really like that transitional Puma SA. Transitionals, especially nice transitionals are very scarce & I would love that one myself, good work!

Yes I do plan on taking it too the range even though the serial number falls in the unsafe range. I think they had more of an ammo problem that blew up some of the receivers back than. Anyhow shooting reloads with gas check lead bullets should be OK.

For me, it would be finding this forum! I am mainly a military vehicle collector, and military weapons. I have already bought a few items off the forum, but the knowledge that is shared has to be my "best acquisition" for the year.
Thanks!!

Best piece I got I think isn't even what I mainly collect. Got this 1925 Austrian NSDAP offshoot newspaper. I'll try to get a pic.

2016 was a good year for my collection!

1) M42 ND from a German veteran who fought in the Halbe Pocket;
2) M42 ND
3) SA transitional Klaas;
4) numbered Bker SS dagger with hanger;
5) Wehrpa of a member of the Gespensterdivision (7 Pz Div);
6) M42 Normandy camo;
7) NSKK Dagger Pfeilringwerk;
8) two Waffen SS Erkennungsmarke.

That's about it and more than enough...lol. I'm gonna slow it down for 2017 however I'm still looking for more SA and SS daggers.

Happy new year to all of you and your loved ones!

Gren,

Gerry

The past year has brought a lot of new, expensive and not very much. But the most desired was this addition to the DRK dagger.

Happy new year to one and all!
