This was taken in the Korssun Pocket winter of 43-44. Which regiment used the stalking Tiger in profile and which division did they belong to? Thanks in advance, M. Bando

It's very similar to the Schwere Panzer Abteilung 501, but I don't think they were in the Korsun/Cherkassy area in that time.

Tor Helge,

I agree that it looks somewhat like the logo above, but the cat from the 501 Tiger Abteilung has all four paws flat on the ground.

The only one that I think is a viable candidate is the tiger insignia of the 301 Grenadier Regiment. This outfit was in Russia from 1941-1944 - Dnaburg, Welikije Luki, Kalinin, Rshew, Demidov and Witebsk. The Regiment was destroyed in June 1944, at Witebsk.

Hope this might help you on your way ... Smile

Best!

Bill, I agree about the tiger, but unfortuneatly neither sPzAbt 501 nor GrenRgt301 were anywhere near Cherkassy-Korsun in the late winter 43/early 44...
sPzAbt503 was there, but their symbol was just a tigers head. I'll have to dig through some books Big Grin to see if I can find a list of units in the area...

All the best,

Tor,

I know that they weren't listed as being in that area, that's why I thought it was important to establish the fact of where they were definitely known to be stationed at. Wink

Is the photo marked "Korsun?" Is that fact absolutely reliable?

Either way, a great photo. Smile

Best!

Bill
