Joe, You are the man when it comes to hooking us all up with useful, pertinent links - sincere thanks for your help and constant watchful eye. Mark, I'll add this little bit more from Vaclav Mericka's 1967 volume, "Orders and Decorations." Charles Louis Frederick of Baden founded in 1812 the meritorious Order of the Zhringen Lion in four grades. The badge is a green cross formy with straight arms, with stylized gold flames between the arms; silver for lower grades. On the central medallion in a circle is the enamelled representation of the castle of Zhringen, and on the reverse a gold lion in a red field. The star of the Grand Cross is of silver, bearing only the central medallion with the lion in the red field; the Star of the Commander in the first class is four-pointed, of flat rays and bears the obverse of the cross on its surface. The ribbon is green with a yellow stripe at the edge. I'm not so sure about the stylized-flame bit, but everything else sounds kosher to me .. Lovely! Bill
