When do we see the earliest use of the solid trolon grips on Navy daggers.? I'm talking about the Yellow/Orange/Red types.

Hello Baz69, I think this is a tough question as eg. one of the manufacturer known for their most prolific use of yellow grips, WKC, can hardly be put into a special age section as their mm did not change during the IIIR period. Also WKC hardly did change the material for their daggers.

Thank you for considering it anyway, I have seen a few Reichsmarine (1929 pattern) with solid grips, especially WKC and a few other smaller makers, really my point is were they used before the introduction of what we know as the 1st Pattern.

I have not. Like yourself I have only seen them on the 1929 Pattern (1st model) and later. The 1919 and 1921 patterns seem to be either black ebony, horn or "celluloid" over wood.

Thanks for your reply, it was just one of those things that has bugged me for a while, I tend to pick up every Navy I can and have not to date seen a dagger prior to the 1929 model with a solid trolon grip.

... the only thing I can say is, that I'm having a named WKC with an orange solid Trolon grip which was bought in 1935, of course with the Reed-bündle-pommel. The pommel was replaced in 1938.

Would be interesting to see earlier examples.
