Not common. Regulations permitted Police Officers who were also members of the SS to wear the SS Degen and Portepee. So, most Officers exercised this option and wore the SS sword and/or knot. I always have to ask myself why would a Police Officer just wear a different pommel instead of the proper sword?

How much does a ss pommel add to The value? But it was it a factory option or was it a pre-45 thing?

SS pommels are sometimes deen on officer and NCO degens. As noted, they were an option and the purchaser had to be a bonafide SS member. They are uncommon and usually add several hundred dollars in value to the sword. And, yes, there are reproduction pommels out there of varying quality.
