old medal polish remains on the pommel, could be cleaned with a toothbrush.

Yes, but only with a very soft tooth brush or a paintbrush, otherwise the emery in the polish residue might cause harm if done with a stiff tooth brush.

BTW nice dagger in remarkable overall condition.

Nice looking piece but that's not a Pack produced pommel.. could it have been used by Pack in a shortage, or replaced during the period? Who knows! Kevin.
