Hello all. I hope everyone is having a good weekend, I'm a newbie and was looking for some help. I was given a German iron cross by my grandfather who's brother looted it from a pow camp he was held in after it was liberated by the Americans, (the Germans fled and guys so we're left took what they could) I know this is 100% genuine but I'm not too sure on the flags, I got them From a collector who I googled etc before and he is obviously confident they are original.. could you guys possibly take a look and let me know your thoughts? They are both thick cotton. The ripped flag came with a note from a vet to say it came from the 21st panzer Reg in North Africa, true or not I quite liked the look of it anyway. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated :-)

The ripped flag is a German Kriegsmarine (Navy) flag as identified by the Eagle M stamp wink

Thanks, I thought this might be the case, does the M stamp relate it to the navy? As the other flag has a feint M on as well.. With this being a Naval flag does that probably mean it wasn't anything to do with the 21st Panzer div in Cap Bon North Africa?

No, does not relate to the 21st Panzers.

Is there enough detail in the images to see if they look genuine ww2?

Both look period to me. And yes, the M relates to them being part of the Kriegsmarine. Finding a party flag with a naval marking isn't something often seen compared to the number of party flags and banners about.

I like the flags, both have what you would consider positive traits that are found in period produced items; however, saying that, I am not big on the naval markings on the party flag..it is not what you would expect to see on a piece from this period.

Caveat! They have been producing high quality NSDAP flags for over 50 years now, often being made in the same places by the the same people who made them during the 30's and 40's..something made in 1966 will now have decades of patina/wear on it and can often be indistinguishable from something made just over 20 years earlier.

These are the pitfalls we face in our hobby!
